Ranger
Base Class: Ranger

Some rangers walk with wolves, others command hawks or panthers — but a rare few forge a bond with the most majestic and terrifying of creatures: dragons. These rangers are known as Dragon Tamers, bound by fate, courage, or destiny to ride alongside draconic allies.

A Dragon Tamer does not dominate their companion through fear, but earns its respect through trial, sacrifice, and trust. Together, they become a seamless pair of hunter and wyrm, their strikes flowing in perfect unison — the ranger’s arrow streaking as the dragon’s breath roars beside it, or the ranger’s blade swinging as claws and fangs tear into the same foe.

Legends say that Dragon Tamers are chosen, not made, called by draconic spirits who see in them the strength of will to walk between mortal and wyrmkind. To witness one is to see a living myth — a rider and their dragon, flying as one across the battlefield, an unstoppable bond forged in fire, frost, or storm.

Dragon Affinity

3rd Level Feature

You form a mystical bond with dragonkind. Choose a draconic type (fire, cold, lightning, acid, or poison). This choice determines your companion’s breath weapon and its visual traits.

  • You learn Draconic if you don’t already know it.

  • You can cast Find Familiar once per long rest without material components, but the familiar always appears as a tiny draconic spirit.

Dragon Companion

7th Level Feature

You gain a loyal Dragon Companion, a Medium dragon spirit made flesh.

  • The dragon follows your commands, can serve as a mount, and fights alongside you.

  • When you take the Attack action, the dragon may attack the same target immediately after (Bite/Claw for melee or Breath Weapon for ranged).

  • The dragon’s statblock scales with your level (see Dragon Companion).

  • If the dragon's health is reduced to 0, it will disappear and will return automatically after a short rest or using the find familiar spell.

Bond of Fangs and Flame

11th Level Feature

Your connection deepens:

  • Your dragon grows to a Large size, and its flight speed increases.

  • When you use Hunter’s Mark, your dragon’s attacks also deal the extra damage to marked targets.

  • Once per short or long rest, you may command your dragon to unleash a devastating empowered Breath Weapon. Creatures have a disadvantage on the saving throw.

  • You gain resistance to the damage type matching its breath weapon.

  • If you're targeted by an attack, you may use your reaction to have the dragon interpose itself, granting you +4 AC against that attack.

  • When you and your dragon both hit the same target on a turn, the target must make a Strength saving throw (DC = your Spell Save DC) or be knocked prone by the combined strike.

Wyrm's Apex

15th Level Feature

Your dragon companion matures into a Huge wyrmling of immense power.

  • Its Breath Weapon damage reaches full power (5d6).

  • You can ride it effortlessly into battle with up to one additional ally.

  • Once per long rest, you may both unleash a Twin Breath, combining your draconic energy with your companion’s. This creates a 60-ft cone of destruction of your dragon’s element. All creatures in the area must make a Dexterity saving throw against your Spell Save DC, taking 12d6 damage on a fail or half as much on a success.
