Ranger
Base Class: Ranger

A Ranger who forges a deep connection with a single beast, training it to fight and adventure by their side

Level 3: Rangers companion

At 3rd level, you gain a beast companion that is no larger than Large with a challenge rating of player level or lower.

You add your proficiency bonus to the beast's AC, attack rolls, and damage rolls, as well as to saving throws and skills it's proficient in.
The beast's hit point maximum is four times your ranger level.
The beast shares your initiative. You can command its movement as a free action, and for a bonus action, you can have it take the Attack, Dash, Disengage, or Help action. It will Dodge if not commanded.
After gaining Extra Attack at level 5, you can make one weapon attack when commanding the beast to Attack.
If your companion dies, you can spend 8 uninterrupted hours to acquire a new one.
Note for the player: You must manually add the listed bonuses for your companion's AC, attacks, damage, and saves to its stat block. These bonuses increase each time your proficiency bonus increases (at levels 5, 9, 13, and 17).

Level 7: Exceptional training

  • At 7th level, you can use a bonus action for your beast to Dash, Disengage, or Help if it hasn't attacked. Your companion’s attacks count as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage.

Level 11: Bestial Fury

Starting at 11th level, when you command your beast companion to take the Attack action, the beast can make two attacks, or it can take the Multiattack action if it has that action.

Level 15: Share spells

Beginning at 15th level, when you cast a spell that targets only you, you can also affect your beast companion with the spell if the beast is within 30 feet of you.
