Base Class: Wizard
You are a Fatescribe, an arcanist who has discovered how to read this ultimate manuscript. Your own spellbook is a unique magical artifact—the tome containing your personal Fatescript. By studying the narrative of your own life, you learn to focus your arcane sight, catching glimpses into the stories of others around you and using that knowledge to ensure your own tale reaches it's rightful conclusion.
Level 3: Fatescript Tome
Your spellbook is the living Fatescript of your own story. It serves as a Spellcasting Focus for your wizard spells, providing any material component that does not have a specific cost. The true power of your Fatescript is revealed when you perform an Arcane Substitution.
- Arcane Substitution. To provide a material component that does have a specific cost, you can revoke a passage of fate at a dire price, using the raw arcane power to fuel the spell. This cost is paid in addition to the slot used to cast the spell:
- Pages of Fate: The spell consumes a number of pages from your tome equal to its spell level.
- Arcane Sacrifice: You must expend additional spell slots whose combined levels are equal to at least one for every 50 gp of the component's value.
- Maintenance. The pages of your Fatescript are a finite resource. You can add new pages during a Long Rest using Calligrapher’s Supplies, returning the revoked passage. You can create a number of pages equal to your Proficiency Bonus per Long Rest.
- Fatescript Inscriptions. Your unique study of the Fatescript allows you to decipher magical narratives that are normally beyond the grasp of wizards. You can find and scribe the following spells into your Fatescript Tome, provided you find them on a spell scroll or in another spellbook. When you do so, they are considered Wizard spells for you. Once inscribed, you can prepare these spells as you would any other wizard spell in your spellbook.
- Bless
- Augury
- Bestow Curse
- Divination
Level 3: Inevitable Prose
By reading the subtle annotations in the Fatescript, you can anticipate the immediate future. When you finish a Long Rest, you roll a number of four-sided dice (d4s) equal to your Proficiency Bonus and record the results. These are your Prose Dice. As a Reaction when another creature you can see within 60 feet makes an Attack Roll, ability check, or saving throw, you can expend one Prose Die to add or subtract its result from the d20 roll. You must do so before the outcome is determined.
Level 3: Fatescript Pages
You have a special pool of prepared pages that can be expended for your Arcane Substitution feature.
-
Max Pages: Your maximum number of pages equals your Proficiency Bonus + Intelligence Modifier.
-
Usage: You expend pages when using your Arcane Substitution feature. The number of pages expended is equal to the level of the spell being cast.
-
Recovery: During a Long Rest, you can use Calligrapher's Supplies to craft a number of new pages equal to your Proficiency Bonus (at a cost of 5 sp each), up to your maximum.
Level 6: Exposed Passage
By focusing on a creature, you can read a passage of its Fatescript. As an Action, you can choose one creature you can see within 60 feet. You find a narrative flaw in its story—a moment of weakness or poor foreshadowing. The next time that creature is hit with an Attack Roll before the start of your next turn, it has Vulnerability to the attack's damage. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.
Level 10: Destined Evasion
You have read the coming chapters of your own Fatescript and prepared for them. When you are forced to make a saving throw against an effect you can see, you can use your Reaction to automatically succeed. Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a Long Rest.
Level 10: Authoritative Prose
Your command of fate's language becomes more potent. Your Inevitable Prose dice become d6s.
Level 14: Chapter and Verse
You learn to focus your full attention on a single creature, reading deep into its Fatescript, chapter and verse. As an Action, choose one creature you can see within 60 feet to become the subject of your scrutiny for 1 minute (concentration). For the duration, you gain these benefits against that creature:
-
It has Disadvantage on Attack Rolls against you as you anticipate its every move.
-
You can use your Inevitable Prose feature on saving throws it forces you to make without using your Reaction.
-
When it begins to cast a spell, you read the incantation in its Fatescript. You can use your Reaction to identify the spell and immediately cast Counterspell if you have an available spell slot of the appropriate level. You learn Counterspell if you have not already and it is always prepared. If you use it in this manner, though you need a spell slot available, it does not expend the slot.
Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a Long Rest.
Level 14: Decisive Edit
When you use your Inevitable Prose feature, you can expend up to two dice on the same roll.
