Base Class: Illrigger
You'd Dare? Very well then
Quod stuporem affer
You gain proficiency with heavy armor. In addition, your MAX AC benefit becomes 4 instead of 2, and scales off of charisma instead of dexterity.
Aspectum, Contemptum, et Prehensum
You manipulate the attention of others through combat, drawing admiration and fear alike. Everyone knows it, whether they're blind, or see through tremors or sounds, that your gaze is one of contempt..and soon, so is theirs.
You generate and expend
Gaze , representing the fixation, dread, and reverence you draw through combat.
-
You can have a maximum number of
Gaze equal to 7 + your proficiency bonus. -
Each stack of
Gaze increases the damage you deal by +2, and increases the damage you take from all sources by +1.
Gaining Gaze of Contempt
You gain 1 stack of
Gaze when any of the following occur involving a creature that can see you:
-
You hit a creature with an attack.
-
A creature misses you with an attack.
-
You succeed on a saving throw or contested roll against a creature.
Losing Gaze of Contempt
A creature you are engaged with gains 1 stack of
Gaze when:
-
You are hit by an attack.
-
You fail a saving throw or contested roll against them.
With the DM’s approval, you may also gain or lose
Gaze through deliberate, thematic actions, such as taunting an enemy, shattering your own weapon for dramatic effect, or allowing yourself to be struck for aesthetic reasons.
Contempt (State)
When you begin your turn with 7 or more
Gaze, you may choose to enter a
State of Contempt (no action required). If you do, all your
Gaze is consumed.
While in Contempt:
-
You gain resistance to all damage except psychic.
-
You cannot gain or lose
Gaze. -
Your weapon attacks deal half damage.
-
This state lasts a number of rounds equal to the amount of
Gaze consumed.
Contempt ends early if you are incapacitated.
Grip erit
Your contempt crystallizes into unseen golden hands.
As an action, choose one creature within 30 feet that can perceive you. The creature must succeed on a Strength saving throw against your Illrigger spell save DC or become restrained.
While restrained this way:
-
The creature takes 2d8 + your Charisma modifier force damage at the start of each of its turns.
-
If you are in a
State of Contempt, you regain hit points equal to half the damage dealt.
You may only have one
Grasp active at a time. Releasing it requires no action.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, regaining all uses on a long rest.
When you enter a
State of Contempt, you immediately regain one expended use of this feature.
Sanguinans, Aureus, Gloriosus
You learn to turn victory into spectacle through Awe Noyade and Contemptuous Mercy.
Awe Noyade
When you:
-
Reduce a creature to 0 hit points,
-
Score a critical hit,
-
Or defeat a creature restrained by your
Grasp ,
You may perform an Awe Noyade, choosing one of the following effects:
-
Fixation: Choose a number of creatures you can perceive equal to your proficiency bonus. They must make a Wisdom saving throw or have disadvantage on attacks against creatures other than you until the end of their next turn.
-
Claim Tribute: You regain hit points equal to the damage dealt. You may grant temporary hit points equal to that amount, divided as you choose among allies within 30 feet.
-
Awe-Struck: One creature must succeed on a Charisma saving throw or become frightened and incapacitated until the end of its next turn. A creature that succeeds is immune to this effect for 24 hours.
Contemptuous Mercy
When you are hit by an attack or fail a saving throw, you may use your reaction to permit the effect to occur — and demonstrate how little it mattered.
Choose one:
-
Gain resistance to the triggering damage type until the end of your next turn.
-
Immediately perform a single weapon attack against the source, with advantage. On a hit, add the triggering damage to your attack’s damage.
- Choose where the secondary effects of a spell or maneuver go, if applicable.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier, regaining all uses on a long rest.
Persecutor Letalis
Once per turn, when a creature that you struck attempts to move out of melee range of you (via a spell or physical ability) whilst you do not have the [condition]Blind[condition], you can subject the target to the pain of averting your Gaze.
As a reaction, you force the creature to make a CHA saving throw against your Spell Save DC, otherwise they take damage equal to their stacks of
Gaze + your proficiency bonus. Once they are done moving out of your range, their movement speed is reduced to zero for the rest of the turn.
Reverentia, Contemptus
You prepare this action by slowly unsheathing your blade.
On your next turn, you may use your action to unleash a sweeping strike in a 34-foot radius centered on yourself.
-
Each creature in the area that you have struck since your last turn takes weapon damage plus your Charisma modifier + the number of
Gaze stacks you have. -
If you are in a State of Contempt, this attack is a critical hit.
-
Creatures you have not engaged are ignored completely.
After this attack, your Gaze is reduced to 0.
You may use this feature once per minute, up to a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus before needing a long rest.
Contemptus Aspectus et Contemptus Aspectus
"If you're going to give this only a tepid gaze, I'd much rather you not make eye contact in the first place.
But once you've looked… don't look away."
-N Corp. E.G.O::Contempt, Awe Ryōshū
Your Synchronization with this E.G.O. has brought forth such paranoia and pride within yourself and others that it has become a feverous extension of your being. This has culminated into a diversion in your path.
Choose one of the following paths: The one who holds Contempt in their Gaze, or The one who holds Contempt for the Gaze.
Contempt, Awe/The one who holds Contempt for the Gaze
"I am unrivaled, unparalleled; every gaze that falls upon me trembles with awe. Should you pierce me anyway… that would also constitute a certain aesthetic."
-N Corp. New League of Nine Littérateurs Ryōshū
Once per battle, you may assume a perfected state of contempt, allowing your disdain to take physical form. As a bonus action, you undergo a transformation that lasts for 1 minute or until you are incapacitated.
While in this state:
-
Awe: Your weapon becomes a bleeding golden blade. Your weapon attacks are considered magical, and once on each of your turns when you hit a creature, you may treat the attack as an Awe Noyade, even if it would not normally qualify. Whilst utilizing your blade this way, you may use a bonus action to cause the bleeding gold on it to solidify into spikes, which shoot out and deal 3d6 piercing damage to a number of targets equal to your proficiency bonus. Alternatively, you may channel your scorn into the blade, which extends its range by 10 ft x the amount of
Gaze on yourself (10 if you have
Contempt) and increases its dice damage by a similar amount. -
Contempt: A barrier of congealed contempt surrounds you. At the start of each of your turns, choose one damage type. Until the start of your next turn, you have resistance to that damage type. If you would already have resistance to that damage type, you instead gain Immunity for that turn.
-
Gaze of Contempt: Creatures of your choice within a 20 ft radius have disadvantage on saving throws made to avert their gaze, resist fear, or ignore your presence. Creatures that start their turn within the area cannot gain advantage on attack rolls against targets other than you.
- Contempt of the Gaze: While transformed, the first time each round you would take damage, you may reduce that damage to 0. When you do so, you immediately gain an Awe Noyade trigger against a creature you can see.
When the transformation ends, the barrier shatters and the golden blade reverts, leaving the battlefield scarred by the display.
Contempt, Awe/The one who holds Contempt in their Gaze
"Scatter. Every gaze shall be drawn to this squalidity."
-Contempt, Awe
Once per battle, you may demand the battlefield bear witness to your grand Visage. Your weapon dissolves into a bleeding blade of gold as you make a single, contemptuous sweep, lashing outward in a 70-foot cone.
Each creature in the area must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw against your Illrigger spell save DC or be forced to behold your display. On a failure, a creature takes 7d8 weapon damage, cannot avert its gaze, and suffers the effects of your Awe Noyade. Until the start of your next turn, affected creatures have disadvantage on attack rolls against creatures other than you. All allies that witness this attack have their negative effects and conditions cleared. If a creature(s) hit by this attack is left at a percentage of their maximum hp equal to the total amount of
Gaze on all targets struck or lower, they are immediately executed, left in a pose of worship towards you..
This can only be used once per long rest.

Posted Feb 23, 2026Sorry about this formatting stuff. I may make another version fixing some of the issues people are talking about in the comments here sometime in the future.
Top to Bottom are the weakest to strongest abilities, and they follow the standard subclass rules for when a subclass can have features (which I can send if you would like).
Again, Sorry for this being hard to read. You're not slow, but it is much easier to read through when you put it on a character and read it that way.

Posted Feb 6, 2026Is this supposed to say that you lose gaze instead of another creature gaining gaze?
Imagine the BBEG getting taunted into gaining a bunch of gaze and taking +10 damage from every hit, every AoE, and every dart from Magic Missile.
