Base Class: Wizard
You are not just dabbling in necromancy — you command legions of the dead. Your magic shapes their bones and binds their souls. As your power grows, you raise mightier undead or command greater numbers, balancing quantity and quality through your mastery over death’s ledger.
Grave Ledger
Beginning when you select this school at 2nd level, You gain a CR Pool equal to your wizard level. When you summon undead using your subclass features, the total Challenge Rating of undead under your control at once cannot exceed your CR Pool. Each undead you summon remains for 1 hour, until destroyed, or until you dismiss it (no concentration). When a summoned undead’s duration ends, its CR value is freed back into your pool.
Summon the Dead
At 2nd level, you gain the ability to expend a spell slot and summon a number small or medium size undead creatures of your choice whose combined CR does not exceed your CR Pool. The maximum CR of any one undead you can summon equals half your wizard level (rounded down).
These creatures remain for 1 hour, until destroyed, or dismissed. All undead act on your initiative and use your spell save dc for their abilities and deal necrotic damage with their attacks.
You can use this ability a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus per long rest, or by expending a spell slot of 3rd level or higher.
Corpse Artisan
At 6th level, Your undead creations become stronger.
Whenever you create an undead using a necromancy spell, it has additional benefits:
- Your summoned undead gain temporary hit points equal to your Wizard level + Int modifier when summoned.
- You can now summon large size undead.
- Upon dying, each undead creature explodes. Creatures within 15ft must succeed a Dexterity saving throw against your spell save DC, taking [roll]1d10[/roll] necrotic damage on a failed save or half on a success.
-
You can imbue one summoned undead with Greater Essence, increasing its CR value by 1 (it counts as +1 CR against your pool) but granting it:
-
Advantage on saving throws against turn undead and radiant damage.
-
One additional attack and adds your proficiency bonus to its attacks.
-
Death’s Cohort
Beginning at 10th level, you can sustain your summons indefinitely by performing a 10-minute ritual every long rest. Your undead now last until dismissed or destroyed. You can also summon huge creatures or smaller. Additionally when you cast Create Undead or Animate Dead those creatures do not count against your CR pool and become permanent servants.
Master of the Black Army
Starting at 14th level, your mastery over necromancy is absolute. Your CR Pool is now equal to twice your wizard level and you can summon Gargantuan or smaller size undead.
When you summon undead, you can instill them with a fragment of your soul. Those undead
- Have advantage on all attack rolls for 1 minute.
- Can deal necrotic or radiant damage.
- Upon dying, each undead creature now does [roll]2d10[/roll] and increases the range of the explosion by 10ft.
