Base Class: Monk
Those monks who are disciplined in both the study of magic formation and ki have long kept the forbidden technique of weave severance closely guarded. A technique that allows the user to resist the weave's effects and advanced study of the technique allows for the complete severance from the magic user and the weave. These monks do not view any magic outside of abjuration and healing spells as a public good. This is because powerful magic all too often allows for the subjugation of those who are less powerful than the magic user. To study magic costs gold, resources that commoners often do not have access to and as a result to the monks that follow this tradition magic is a mark of the aristocratic society that plagues the common of society. In this way to them proficiency in magic is not only a mark of great inequality of power it is also a mark of great inequality of fortune. They are a stark contrast to the whole of society that approves of magic that they claim to represent; however, they just see those who disagree with them as ignorant to the cause and ignorant to the damage magic creates. They have an agenda and they work this agenda often in the background of shadow tactics, not revealing their knowledge of this technique until it is all but too late.
Do you wish to free the people from their illusionary chains and end the practice of damaging spells?
Resist the Weave
When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you can consume your reaction to spend 2 ki points whenever you are targeted by a single target or line spell to add half your monk level, rounded down, to your AC. If you successfully block the attack in this way, then you gain temporary HP equal to the spell's level.
Know the Enemy
Starting at 3rd level you have proficiency in the Arcana skill.
Sever the Weave
At 6th level, you gain two additional options in combat. You can use your action to sever the weave from someone or dispel their magic.
- You can now completely block off the ki paths necessary for a spellcaster ot interface with the source of magic in the world. As an action, you can surround your fist with pure force energy to force a creature you touch to make a saving throw using its spellcasting ability against your Ki save DC. On a failed save, the creature is severed - each time it casts a spell of 1st level or higher, the spell fails, having no effect, and the spell slot used to cast it is wasted. When a creature loses a spell this way, it can repeat the saving throw, becoming unsevered on a success. The severance can be ended early by a greater restoration spell or similar means; you can also do so by touching the creature as a bonus action. When you reach 10th, 16th and 20th level your Ki save DC as it relates to this effect only is increased by 1. You can use this ability a number of times equal to your wisdom modifier, after which it costs 2 ki points to preform this special action again. You regain all expended uses of this ability when you finish a short or long rest.
OR
- Spend 2 ki points to cast a 3rd level dispel magic spell as an action. You can spend 2 additional ki points to increase the level of dispel magic. If you cast dispel magic by using ki points you can cast it without any somatic or verbal components.
Trickster's Demise
By the time you reach 11th level, your very presence distorts the Weave around you. Whenever a creature attempts to teleport using a spell while it is within 60 feet of you, you can use your reaction to force it to make a spellcasting ability check against your Ki Save DC. On a failed check, the spell fails, any spell slot expended is wasted, and you can teleport to an unoccupied space within 5 feet of that creature as part of the same reaction. Once you use this feature, whether successful or not, you can't use it again until you complete a short or long rest.
Additionally, you have resistance to the damage of spells.
Complete Severance
Starting at 17th level, your prohibition of magic is absolute, and the penalty for defying it is harsh. Creatures you have severed cannot cast cantrips. The first time a creature loses a spell after being severed, you can cause it to take force damage equal to five times the spell's level (no action required). When it becomes unsevered, you can cause it to take force damage equal to your monk level (no action required).
