Base Class: Paladin
Paladins who swear the Oath of the Martyred Bulwark devote themselves to gods of endurance and compassion , such as Ilmater, the Crying God. These holy warriors believe that pain shared is pain lessened, and that the greatest strength is found in self-sacrifice. They take the wounds of others into themselves, finding grace in agony and hope in endurance.
Tenets of the Martyred Bulwark
The tenets of the Oath of the Martyred Bulwark emphasize compassion, endurance, and sacrifice.
Endure Without End.
Suffering is fleeting; compassion is eternal. Stand firm against pain if it spares another.
Share the Burden.
No one should suffer alone. Offer your strength to those who falter.
Mercy Through Sacrifice.
Even your enemies deserve compassion. Show them that mercy is might.
Hope in Agony.
Every scar is a story of survival. Let your endurance inspire others to rise again.
Level 3: Oath of Martyred Bulwalk Spells

| Paladin Level | Spells |
|---|---|
| 3 | Cure Wounds, Sanctuary |
| 5 | Lesser Restoration, Lesser Restoration |
| 9 | Beacon of Hope, Protection from Energy |
| 13 | Death Ward, Guardian of Faith |
| 17 | Greater Restoration, Beacon of Hope |
Level 3: Suffer in Their Stead
As an action, choose one creature you can see within 30 feet of you that isn’t at 0 hit points. That creature regains up to 20 hit points that it lost within the last minute, and you take the same amount as damage. This damage ignores resistance and immunity and can’t be reduced or transferred in any way.
At 6th level, the maximum amount increases to 30 hit points; at 18th level, to 50 hit points.
Until the end of your next turn, you have advantage on saving throws against being frightened or charmed.
Level 7: Aura of Endurance
Starting at 7th level, you and friendly creatures within 10 feet of you have resistance to one of the following damage types—bludgeoning, piercing, or slashing—while they are below half their hit point maximum. You choose the damage type when you finish a long rest.
Level 15: Unbroken Bastion
When a creature within 30 feet of you takes damage, you can use your reaction to take half of that damage instead, before any resistances or reductions are applied. The creature then takes only half damage. This damage can’t be reduced or transferred in any way.
If you are reduced to 0 hit points by this ability, the creature you protected gains temporary hit points equal to your Charisma modifier + your paladin level.
Level 20: Radiant Martyr
You can assume the form of a radiant martyr, embodying divine compassion. As an action, you gain the following benefits for 1 minute:
- You gain resistance to all damage.
- When a creature within 30 feet of you takes damage, you can use your reaction (once per turn) to take that damage instead. The creature regains hit points equal to half the damage you prevented.
- Your melee weapon attacks deal an extra 1d8 radiant damage.
- When this effect ends, you suffer one level of exhaustion.
Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
