Monk
Base Class: Monk

To restore one is to restore all, for life flows as freely as the stream that carves the stone.

Those who follow the Way of Jade seek harmony between endurance and compassion. To them, the body and spirit are vessels of a single current; Life energy, pure and unbound by magic. Through unwavering discipline, they learn to let that current flow freely, hardening into resilience when struck and softening into radiance when shared.

Jade Monks do not chase destruction or power. They believe the greatest strength lies in restoration, in standing firm against the storm so others may stand as well. Just as jade is both gemstone and stone, they balance stillness and motion, strength and serenity. Their ki refines into translucent energy, shimmering like carved jade, that shields the weak, restores the fallen, and reflects harm with tranquil precision.

Jade Philosophy and Traditions

Philosophy of the Jade Current: Followers of this path view the world as a vast river of life. Each creature is a droplet, connected to the same flow. When one droplet is disturbed, the ripples spread to all others. By mending one, they mend the whole.

To a Jade Monk, every act of healing is both penance and prayer, a reaffirmation that no life stands apart from the greater stream. They meditate upon endurance, patience, and clarity, believing emotion to be a surface ripple atop a deep, unshakable calm. In battle they move like water, firm when pressed, gentle when needed.

Temples and Traditions: Temples of the Way of Jade are rare and serene places, often hidden beside mountain springs, ancient forests, or places of natural balance where water meets stone. Their halls are adorned not with gold, but with soft green light, channeled through polished crystals and flowing water. Within, monks practice rituals of reflection, studying their own reflection in the still waters to confront the turbulence within.

Some sects view jade as the crystallized essence of life itself, earth purified by pressure, time, and harmony. They craft talismans of jade dust, which they dissolve into their tea during meditation, believing it helps “anchor the soul in the body.”

Level 3: Jade Vitality

By 3rd level you have learned to channel your focus into a radiant current that restores vitality and redirects force.

Flow of Life: As a bonus action, you can spend any number of Focus Points to restore vitality to a creature you can touch, including yourself. This healing is fueled by your life energy, not magic, and functions even in an antimagic field. Roll a number of your Martial Arts dice equal to two plus the number of Focus Points spent, then add your proficiency bonus to the total. The chosen creature regains that many hit points. The healing then arcs to another creature of your choice within 15 feet of the previous target, restoring half as many hit points (rounded up). This jump and reduction in healing continues until you have healed a number of creatures equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of one). A creature can’t benefit from the same instance of this ability more than once per round and you can spend no more than half your maximum amount of focus points (rounded up) in a single use.

Example: You are level 3 and spend 2 Focus Points. You have a proficiency bonus of +2, a Wisdom modifier of +3, and your Martial Arts die is a d6. You roll 4d6 + 2 for a total of 16 hit points healed. The first creature is healed for 16 HP, the next for 8 HP, and finally 4 HP before the effect fades.

Jade Resilience: When you or an ally within 15 feet takes damage, you can use your reaction and spend 1 Focus Point to reduce that damage by your Martial Arts die + your Wisdom modifier. If this reduces the damage to 0, you and that creature gains temporary hit points equal to your proficiency bonus, and the attacker must succeed on a Strength saving throw or be pushed 15 feet away.

Level 6: Serene Carapace

By 6th level your serenity has begun to extend outward, shielding those who fight beside you. Granting you the following effects:

  • Jade Defense: You can spend a bonus action and grant a creature within 15 feet a bonus to their AC equal to your Wisdom modifier until the start of your next turn. If this causes an attack to miss, you and the ally gain temporary hit points equal to your Wisdom modifier + your Monk level.
  • When you use Patient Defense, you gain resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage until the start of your next turn.
  • Additionally, you and friendly creatures within 15 feet of you have advantage on saving throws against being frightened or charmed.

Level 11: Jade Resonance

By 11th level your mastery of life energy lets you extend the Flow of Life farther and reinforce it with unwavering intent.

  • Flow of Life can now jump to allies within 30 feet instead of 15.
  • You may now use flow of life without consuming any focus points, once per long rest. when you do this you act as though you had consumed an amount of focus points equal to your wisdom modifier.
  • Each time your healing jumps, you can spend 1 additional Focus Point to prevent the healing from being halved that time.
  • Whenever you heal a creature with Flow of Life, that creature gains a bonus to its next saving throw equal to your Wisdom modifier.
  • While you have temporary hit points from any source , your unarmed strikes deal extra radiant damage equal to your Wisdom modifier.

Level 17: Avatar of Jade

At 17th level, you unlock the full potential of your Jade essence. As an action, you can spend up to 5 Focus Points to encase your body in Jade energy. This Jade Form lasts for 1 minute or until you fall unconscious. For the duration, you gain benefits based on the number of Focus Points spent:

  • 1 or more: You have resistance to all damage except force.
  • 2 or more: At the start of your turn, you and allies within 30 feet gain temporary hit points equal to your Wisdom modifier + your Martial Arts die.
  • 3 or more: When you heal a creature with Flow of Life, the healing is no longer reduced for subsequent targets.
  • 4 or more: You can use your reaction to take half the damage that an ally within 30 feet would take. Additionally your unarmed strikes deal radiant damage instead of bludgeoning and shed dim light in a 15-foot radius.
  • 5: Whenever you or an ally within 30 feet takes damage, the attacker takes radiant damage equal to your Martial Arts die.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a short rest.
