Artificer
Base Class: Artificer

This gory reimagining of a blacksmith makes armor, weapons, and trinkets from the carcasses of slain great creatures. Through a combination of runic enhancements and harnessing the life essence of the slain beast, they are able to imbue their designs with potent magical energies.

Level 3: Artificer Subclass Features

Grim Harvest
You can harvest resources from slain creatures that you may use to craft items. The table below outlines suggestions for managing the resources harvested from a creature and how long it takes to harvest from that creature. When harvesting, the DM may decide (or roll) how much, if any, of that resource you can harvest within the appropriate range of values. These are just guidelines, and we recommend that you discuss this with your DM when the moment arises.

Your allies may assist you in harvesting. If at least two other humanoids assist you in harvesting, you may halve the harvest time taken for each creature you harvest from.

Melder of Flesh and Bone
You gain proficiency in Heavy Armor, Leatherworker’s tools, and Smith’s tools if you did not have them already. You can craft armor, shields, and weapons from the parts of slain creatures. The table opposite outlines suggestions for the resource requirements for crafting these items and you must use Leatherworker’s tools and Smith’s tools to do so. These are just guidelines, and we recommend that you discuss this with your DM when the moment arises.

You can craft a single item during a long rest. During this time, you may apply any other improvements to that item that your class would allow.

Body Knowledge
You have advantage on Medicine checks, and you know the cantrip Spare the Dying in addition to your other cantrips.

Bone Sculptor Spells
You always have certain spells prepared after you reach particular levels in this subclass, as shown in the Bone Sculptor Spells list below. These spells don’t count against the number of spells you can prepare.

3rd: Cause Fear, Inflict Wounds, Speak with Animals
5th: Wither and Bloom, Gentle Repose
9th: Animate Dead, Speak with Dead
13th: Death Ward
17th: Raise Dead, Commune with Nature, Danse Macabre

Butcher
You gain proficiency in one weapon type of your choosing. When making an attack roll, if you are attacking with a weapon that you crafted, you may use your Intelligence modifier instead of Strength or Dexterity for both the bonuses to hit and to damage.

Level 5: Artificer Subclass Features

Improved Crafting
You better understand the creation of items from flesh and bone. The items you craft using your Melder of Flesh and Bone ability become +1 items of their respective type.

Construct of Flesh
During a long rest, you may craft a Construct of Flesh instead of an item. This requires 4 hide/skin, 4 bone/chitin, and any combination of 4 horns, feathers, scales, fangs, claws, or mandibles.

The Construct of Flesh is a friendly undead companion that obeys your commands. It is a Medium creature with the appearance of your choice (although usually fairly gruesome) and the statistics outlined in the Construct of Flesh stat block. You may only have a single Construct of Flesh at a time. If you create a second one, the first collapses into the components you used to create it.

Artificer Subclass Features

Artisan Crafter
Your knowledge of your craft deepens to that of an experienced crafter. The items you craft using your Melder of Flesh and Bone ability become +2 items of their respective type.

Improved Butcher
You gain proficiency in another weapon type of your choosing.

Artificer Subclass Features

Master Crafter
Your creations are only rivalled by the works of master smiths. The items you craft using your Melder of Flesh and Bone ability become +3 items of their respective type.

Body Modification
Over the course of a long rest, you can incorporate one set of your crafted armour and up to two of your crafted weapons into your own flesh. They become a part of you and can only be removed if you choose to remove them over the course of a long rest. The weapons can be concealed within your body, and you may use a bonus action to draw them out.

Minion Master
The maximum hit points of your Construct of Flesh is increased by a further 60 hit points and its AC is increased by 2 (cumulative with the Robust ability if you selected it). You may select a second attack for your Construct of Flesh from its initial list of attacks. The selected attack cannot be the same as the first one you picked. All attacks made by your Construct of Flesh deal an additional 2d6 necrotic damage.
