Base Class: Monk
Warriors of Adaptation are monks who emphasize the quick completion and ending of conflict, in order to restore harmony and balance. They do so through the use of adaptable combat techniques and styles, always thinking outside the box in combat. Warriors of Adaptation often choose a humble path by blending in as commoners, peasants, or someone less than prepared for combat. In many cases, avoiding combat altogether is seen as a viable resolution. They are lethal warriors when needed, often turning random nearby objects into powerful weapons and undermining the defenses of opponents by suddenly shifting and changing styles. These Warriors are often seen as undercover guards, escorts, adventurers, or commonfolk, rarely wearing flashy or attention-grabbing attire, but springing into combat with decisive power when required.
Level 3: Adaptable Attacks
Your adaptable techniques allow you to mimic several forms of damage, even when unarmed. When you hit a creature with an Unarmed Strike, you can choose from the following Adaptation effects.
Penetrating Strike. You can expend a Focus Point and use your fingers or teeth to strike into the soft tissue of a creature, turning your damage type into Piercing for that attack. For the next ten minutes, or until you choose a different Adaptation effect, all of your Unarmed Strikes can deal this type of damage.
Rending Strike. You can expend a Focus Point and use your fingernails, elbows, or rougher edges of your body to turn your damage type into Slashing for that attack. For the next ten minute, or until you choose a different Adaptation effect, all your Unarmed Strikes can deal this type of damage.
Resourceful Techniques
Your experience stepping into combat in a variety of scenarios allows you to gain proficiency with improvised weapons, which count as Monk weapons when being utilized, allowing you to roll your Martial Arts die for damage rolls. Additionally, when you hit a creature with an improvised weapon, you can choose to spend a Focus Point to cause the attack to deal an additional 1 martial arts die+your monk level force damage. Doing so destroys the improvised weapon.
Forceful Interposition
Once per turn, when you make a successful attack roll while using one of your adaptation, you can expend a Focus Point to cause the creature you hit to make a Saving Throw against your Focus Point Save DC. On a failure, you can invoke one of the following effects on the targeted creature, depending on the Adaptation used.
Penetrating Strikes: The target makes a CON Save against your Focus Point DC or drops concentration on any spells they are holding. This Saving Throw applies even after a creature has succeeded their CON Save against the damage taken.
Rending Strikes: The target makes a DEX Save. On a failed save, the creature drops one item it is holding, or loses the grappled condition on one creature they have grappled. If they are wielding one or more weapons, they are disarmed of one of the weapons, which lands harmlessly up to 10 feet away in a space of your choosing.
Level 11: Improvised Weapon Master
You have become more effective with improvised tools and weapons. You can choose to deal Force damage instead of Bludgeoning damage with improvised weapons. Additionally, when you roll damage with an improvised weapon, you can expend a Focus Point to take the maximum damage of your Martial Arts die instead of rolling. When you use your Resourceful Techniques feature to destroy an improvsed weapon, you also deal maximum damage on the additional martial arts die rolled.
Level 17: Endless Interposition
Your adaptation in combat knows no bounds, and you can change your style to fit any situation you find yourself in.
If you hit a creature with an unarmed strike, you instantly know its damage resistances, immunities, and vulnerabilities.
Once per turn, when you use your Forceful Interposition feature, you can impose one of the effects on a creature automatically, no Saving Throw Required.
