Bard
Base Class: Bard

The College of Bluegrass is a tradition born in the valleys and hollers where magic runs through the soil and music tells the truth of life — the joy, the sorrow, and the stubborn grit of folk who won’t quit. These bards don’t study in towers or gilded halls. They learn under open skies, passing songs from one picker to the next, weaving rhythm and harmony into a kind of spellwork that moves feet, stirs hearts, and calls on the very spirit of the land.

A Bluegrass Bard’s magic is living, breathing — it hums in the twang of strings, the stomp of boots, and the ache of longing sung out over the firelight.

Level 3: Bonus Proficiencies

When you join the College of Bluegrass at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with percussion and string instruments. You also gain proficiency in Performance. If you already have proficiency, you now have Expertise in Performance.

Level 3: Flatfooted Magic

Your mastery of rhythm lets you weave enchantments into footwork and song. Whenever you cast a bard spell that targets one or more creatures, you can cause one willing creature of your choice within 30 feet to either:

  • Move 10 feet without provoking opportunity attacks (as your rhythm carries them)

                                                                         OR

  • Take 1 Bardic Die of thunder or radiant damage (your choice) as your song shakes the dust.

An unwilling creature makes a Wisdom Save

Level 6: Backbeat

The backbeat of bluegrass magic lets your performance call forth echoes of those who’ve played before you — the ghosts of fiddlers, singers, and storytellers.

When you use your Bardic Inspiration, you can choose one of the following Jam Effects to accompany it:

The Ballad of Hard Times – The target gains temporary hit points equal to your Bardic Inspiration die + your Charisma modifier.
The Devil’s Reel – The target’s weapon or spell attack deals extra thunder damage equal to your Bardic Inspiration die + Charisma modifier.
The Mourner’s Tune – The target gains an extra attack. The damage is equal to the weapon damage + your Bardic Inspiration die.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier per long rest.

Level 14: High Lonesome Sound

Your power with bluegrass entices those who hear your song to dance.

You are able to cast Otto’s Irresistible Dance.

You can use this once per day.
