Ranger
Base Class: Ranger

The majority of rangers are known to roam the forests and jungles of the world, but scorch shades wander the dunes and deserts which drive out all but the most hearty of creatures.

Scorch shades are more survivable than their contemporaries, yet their signature talent is the ability to manipulate the air of their environment, turning it scorching hot and forming mirages out of nothing.

Level 3: Scorch Shade Spells

Starting at 3rd level, you learn an additional spell when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown in the Scorch Shade Spells table. The spell counts as a ranger spell for you, but it doesn't count against the number of ranger spells you know. These spells are always prepared.

Level 3: Burning Mirages

At 3rd level, you gain access to the minor illusion cantrip. It doesn't count against the number of ranger spells you know, and you can cast it without material components.

Additionally, minor illusion can be cast as a bonus action if used to create an object in your hands (Eg. a weapon or projectile). When you create an illusory object, you and any objects you are touching can manipulate it as if it were physical, but it still passes through other creatures and objects.

Also at 3rd level, all creatures, excluding yourself, that touch a burning illusion take 1d6 plus your Wisdom modifier of fire damage when they first interact with it and at the start of each round they remain in contact with it.

Preexisting illusions can be converted to burning illusions as a bonus action, or this ability can be activated for free when an illusion is first created. The damage is increased to 1d8 plus your Wisdom modifier when you reach 11th level in this class.

Level 7: Lessons of The Desert

When you reach 7th level, you gain resistance to fire damage and an immunity to the effects of extreme heat.

Additionally, you gain proficiency in Survival. If you already have proficiency, you gain expertise instead

Level 11: Illusory Onslaught

Upon reaching 11th level you gain the ability to alter your attacks with illusion magic. When you make a weapon attack, you can use your reaction to summon illusory duplicates that strike alongside you. Your attack is made at advantage, and the targeted creature must make a Dexterity saving throw against your spell save DC.

On a failed save, they take 3d8 plus your proficiency bonus of fire damage. On a successful save, the creature takes half damage. The targeted creature must make the save whether the original attack hit them or not, and this ability can be used once per short rest.

Level 15: Shimmering Duplicate

Upon reaching 15th level, when a creature targets you or an ally within 90 ft with an attack, you can use your reaction to create an illusion of the targeted creature.

The attacker must make a Wisdom saving throw against your spell save DC, and on a failed save, they attack the illusion. If it was a melee attack, they take 1do plus your Wisdom modifier of fire damage, and are blinded until the end of their next turn. On a successful save, they attack as normal. This can be done a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and the uses recharge after a long rest.
