Sorcerer
Base Class: Sorcerer

Sorcerers of Kitsune Soul Sorcery embody the duality stemming from a deep link to fox spirits—perhaps a blessing sought, a curse endured, a spirit sealed within, or even distant ancestry—their power signified by growing spectral tails. They utilize sorcery points to assume increasingly large and resilient Fox Forms, gaining temporary vitality, telepathic reach, and potent natural attacks like Spirit Bite or cone-like Foxfire Flares, though this transformation initially restricts spellcasting. While in their natural guise, they rely on cunning magic, weaving illusions and empowering their cantrips with tricky Foxfire Sparks. At their apex, these sorcerers integrate their dual natures, accessing most signature abilities regardless of current shape, achieving mastery over both profound transformation and innate foxfire power.

Level 3: Foxfire Spark

You learn the Produce Flame cantrip. It counts as a sorcerer cantrip for you, doesn't count against your cantrips known, and produces an ethereal, flickering foxfire.

When you are in your Natural form and cast Produce Flame or hit a target with another sorcerer spell that requires an attack roll, you can expend 1 sorcery point to invoke your foxfire's true nature, causing the flame involved to flare with an eerie blue light as you apply one of the following Spark Effects of your choice to the target hit:

Beguile: The target must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or be Charmed by you until the end of your next turn.
Daze: The target must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or be Blinded until the end of your next turn.
Spirit Burn: The target takes extra damage equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of +1). You choose for the extra damage to be either Radiant Damage or Necrotic Damage.

Level 3: Kitsune Soul Sorcery

When you reach a Sorcerer level specified in the Kitsune Soul Spells table, you thereafter always have the listed spells prepared.

Kitsune Soul Spell
Sorcerer Level Spells
3 Charm Person, Silent Image, Mirror Image, Suggestion
5 Hypnotic Pattern, Major Image
7 Confusion, Hallucinatory Terrain
9 Dominate Beast, Mislead

Level 3: One Tail

Your Kitsune power awakens, manifesting your first spectral tail. You gain proficiency in your choice of the Deception or Persuasion skill.

While you aren’t wearing armor, your base Armor Class equals 10 plus your Dexterity and Charisma modifiers.

Fox Form: You gain the ability to shapeshift. As an action, you can  spend 1 sorcery point to transform into a Fox Form that visually resembles a fox (Beast type).
While in this form:

  • Your size is Small.
  • You retain your normal game statistics, including Hit Points, Armor Class, ability scores, proficiencies, and your ability to speak, but you cannot cast spells. Your equipment merges into your form and has no effect until you revert.
  • You gain Temporary Hit Points equal to your Sorcerer level + your proficiency bonus. These Temporary Hit Points are lost when you revert to your natural form.
  • You can speak telepathically to any creature you can see within 30 feet of you. You must share a language with the creature for it to understand your telepathic utterances.
  • You gain advantage on Perception checks that rely on hearing or smell. You can remain in Fox Form for a number of hours equal to half your Sorcerer level (rounded down), until you dismiss it as a bonus action, until you are Incapacitated or die, or until you use this feature again.

Transforming into larger sizes unlocked at later levels requires spending more sorcery points, as detailed in those features.

Level 6: Three Tails

Your connection deepens, manifesting two additional spectral tails (for a total of three). Your Kitsune form and foxfire gain potency:

Enhanced Fox Form: Your ability to transform into your Fox Form is enhanced and can now grow up to medium size and gain an additional 10 Temporary Hit Points.

Spirit Bite: While in Fox Form, you gain a natural bite attack. This is a melee weapon attack that you are proficient with. You can use your Charisma modifier, instead of Strength, for the attack and damage rolls. On a hit, it deals 1d8 Piercing Damage plus your Charisma modifier. When you hit a creature with your Spirit Bite, you can apply one Foxfire Spark Effect of your choice (Beguile, Daze, or Spirit Burn) to that creature without expending a sorcery point.

Dancing Foxfire: When you cast Produce Flame, you can choose to create two flames simultaneously instead of one; you can direct them individually with the same action and apply Foxfire Spark Effects for both with 1 sorcery point.

Level 14: Six Tails

You manifest three more spectral tails (for a total of six), unlocking potent offensive capabilities. Gaining the following abilities.

Refined Fox Form: Your ability to transform into your Fox Form is now greater than before! You can now grow up to large size and gain an additional 50 Temporary Hit Points  and gain the ability FoxFire Flare.

Foxfire Flare: While in Fox Form, you can use your action to expend 2 or more sorcery points to exhale a blast of concentrated foxfire. Each creature in a 30-foot cone originating from you must make a Dexterity saving throw against your sorcerer spell save DC. A creature takes 2d8 Fire Damage per sorcery point spent on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. When you hit a creature with your Foxfire Flare, you can apply one Foxfire Spark Effect of your choice (Beguile, Daze, or Spirit Burn) to one affected creature without expending a sorcery point.

Mind-Breaking Mirage: While in your Natural Form, you can use your action to force one creature you can see within 60 feet to confront a terrifying phantasm. The target must make an Intelligence saving throw against your sorcerer spell save DC. On a failed save, it takes 5d10 Psychic Damage and becomes Frightened of you for 1 minute. On a successful save, it takes half as much damage and isn't Frightened. A creature Frightened in this way can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. You can use this feature once, and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. Alternatively, you can use this feature by expending 5 sorcery points.

Level 18: Nine Tails

You achieve the pinnacle of Kitsune power, manifesting your final three spectral tails for the full count of nine and integrating your dual natures with your ultimate form.

Apex Fox Form : Assume your Apex form! Once per long rest, you can harness your full power. You can transform up to huge size and gain an additional 100 Temporary Hit Points and gain the following abilities:

When you are large or huge in Fox Form, your reach with your Spirit Bite attack increases to 10 feet.
You can now use Foxfire Flare while in Natural Form.
Your Telepathy ability granted by your Fox Form now allows you to communicate with any creature that understands at least one language, regardless of whether you share that language.
