Base Class: Wizard
In the urban megacity of Prism, many wizards learn to blend machinery and magic together to create an arcanox—a machine powered by magic. Machines are reliable but not flexible; inversely, magic has myriad uses but is difficult to control. By combining the two, mage-machinists can confidently harness magic on a grand scale.
Level 3: Bonus Proficiency
You are proficient in the use of tinker’s tools. Additionally, you can add a set of tinker’s tools to your inventory—the result of your experiments with arcanum.
Level 3: Create Arcanox
Over the course of 1 minute, you can hold a non-magical object in your hands and imbue it with a wizard spell of 5th level or lower you have prepared, transforming the object into an arcanox.
You must expend a spell slot sufficient to cast the spell as part of the process of creating the arcanox (or a 1st-level spell slot, if the spell is a cantrip). A creature holding the arcanox can use it to cast the imbued spell, using your spellcasting ability modifier to do so. Once the arcanox is used in this way, or when you finish your next long rest, the object becomes nonmagical again.
You can maintain a number of arcanox at once up to your proficiency bonus. If you create an arcanox that exceeds your limit, your oldest arcanox becomes nonmagical in the process.
Level 6: Empowered Creations
Your arcanox are more reliable and powerful than the average spell. When one of your arcanox is used to cast a spell that deals damage, the spell deals extra damage equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of +1).
Level 10: Spell Capacity
When you create an arcanox, you can expend more than one spell slot in the process, storing its magical energy in the arcanox. Doing so allows the spell imbued in the arcanox to be cast once for each spell slot expended.
The creature using the arcanox chooses which spell slot to use, casting the imbued spell at the slot’s level. Each spell slot stored in this way must be equal in level to the imbued spell or higher. After the last spell slot stored is expended, the arconox becomes non-magical.
Level 14: Arcane Network
Your arcanox form a network of magical information that only you have access to. While an arcanox of yours is within 120 feet of you, you gain the following benefits:
- You know the arcanox's distance and direction from you, and you can sense when it is used.
- You can speak back and forth telepathically with a creature while the arcanox is on its person.
- As a bonus action, you can teleport up to 30 feet into an unoccupied space within 5 feet of the arcanox. Doing so expends the lowest level spell slot stored in the arcanox.
