Base Class: Wizard
Shadow Weavers are Wizards who bend Shar's Shadow Weave to enhance their magic. The Shadow Weave is a force of nothingness antithetical to existence itself, and as such is extremely harmful to use. Most who practice this art die young, painful deaths, but those who live to master the art of shadow weaving become powerful wizards whose spellpower far exceeds the common mage's.
Familiar Shadows
At 2nd level, your familiarity with the shadow weave has altered your sight. You gain darkvision to a range of 60 feet. If you have darkvision already, the range extends by 60 feet. Your darkvision also applies to magical darkness.
Corrupt Spell
When you reach 2nd level, you learn how to channel the shadow weave in and at the cost of your body. You have a number of Shadow Die equal to your proficiency bonus. These dice are d6s and are regained after a long rest. When you roll Shadow Dice, you take necrotic damage that cannot be prevented or reduced in any way equal to the total number rolled. You can spend these Shadow Dice in the following ways:
- Corrupted Destruction. When you roll damage for a spell, you can expend one or more Shadow Dice to deal additional damage equal to the total number rolled. This additional damage is always necrotic damage, regardless of the spell's base damage type.
- Corrupted Nullification. When you roll dice to reduce damage, restore hit points, or grant temporary hit points from a spell, you can expend one or more Shadow Dice and add the total number rolled to the spell's roll.
- Corrupted Summoning. When you summon a creature(s) or structure that has hit points with a spell, you can expend one or more Shadow Dice to grant the summoned creature(s)/structure(s) temporary hit points equal to the number rolled.
- Corrupted Obstruction. When you cast a spell with a spell save DC, you can expend one Shadow Dice to raise the first saving throw DC of the spell by the total number rolled.
Your Shadow Dice become d8s at 9th level and d10s at 16th level.
The Dark Hour
When you reach 6th level, a piece of your mind is manifested through the Shadow Weave and acts while you rest. While you are in a dormant state and taking a long rest, a shadow of you forms. This shadow has one hit point, and an armor class of 10, and darkvision equal to your maximum range. It has no ability scores and automatically fails all saving throws.
While you rest, your shadow can perform menial tasks, such as cleaning your room or organizing your tomes, and it can copy spells to your spellbook. Your shadow can work for a number of hours equal to your proficiency bonus. When exposed to bright light, your shadow will dissipate, and cannot reform until the light is dampened.
Sacrifice Spell
At 10th level, you've learned to absorb the Shadow Weave in dire circumstances to overcome all obstacles. Once per long rest when you fail a saving throw while concentrating on a spell, you can choose to end the spell to automatically succeed on the saving throw,
Dark Apex
At 14th level, you have mastered the Shadow Weave, able to handle it with ease and call upon it in the most dire of circumstances.
Your Shadow Dice reset after a short and long rest. Additionally, once per long rest when you are reduced to zero hit points or killed, you can immediately expend all Shadow Dice to heal yourself or deal necrotic damage to a creature you could see if you were conscious equal to the total number rolled.
If you choose to heal yourself with this ability, your hit point maximum decreases by the total number rolled, and can only be returned to normal with the Greater Restoration, Heal or Wish spell.
