Base Class: Barbarian
Some barbarians fear the beast within.
You live with something stranger.
The Path of the Shattered Halo is a tradition born from those who carry the Void inside their ribs like a second heartbeat. It is not an element and not a god. It does not burn, freeze, or shock. It unmakes. It is absence with teeth — a balancing force that responds to concentrated power the way a storm responds to pressure.
For some, the Void is a sensation: a cold tide beneath the skin, a weight that grows when magic thickens the air. For others, it is far more intimate. The Black Mouth can feel like a separate presence nested in the mind — a voice, a hunger, a companion that is never quite a friend. A mind fracture, perhaps. A survival mechanism. A parasite that learned your name. Whatever it is, it doesn’t speak like conscience. It speaks like appetite.
Those who walk this path learn a hard truth early: you do not defeat the hunger. You do not “purify” it. You train it.
You feed it carefully. You leash it with technique. You turn it into discipline.
The most dangerous mistake a Fractured barbarian can make is to believe the Void is only useful when it is loud. The real mastery is quieter: the moment you stand in the presence of structured magic and feel the Black Mouth stir, and you choose not to let it drive. The moment you guide that pressure outward, shaping it into a controlled presence that steadies your will and sharpens your purpose. The moment you accept that your power is not freedom from the monster — it is the daily, deliberate act of command.
In settings where magic is treated as architecture — measured, regulated, routed through civilized systems — the Fractured are unsettling by their very existence. You are a reminder that order is not the only truth. That every structure casts a shadow. That balance can be enforced by something that does not ask permission.
This path isn’t about becoming a mindless destroyer of spells. It’s about becoming a living boundary — the warrior who can walk into the densest weave of power and remain sovereign. You don’t need to speak to be terrifying. You don’t need a spellbook to be a threat. You carry the antithesis of certainty in your chest, and you have learned, inch by inch, to aim it.
At the height of your journey, your relationship with the Void reaches its most honest form. You can tighten the leash until your presence becomes pure control — calm, lethal, unquestionable. Or you can open the cage for a heartbeat and let the hunger breathe, turning the world around you into a place where sound and certainty thin out together. Either choice comes with a truth every Fractured barbarian understands:
The Black Mouth is like a dangerous pet that loves you the way fire loves oxygen.
If you starve it, it will grow desperate.
If you indulge it, it will grow bold.
And if you forget who holds the chain —
it will try to eat you first.
Fractured Aura
3rd Level Feature: Fractured Aura
When you enter a rage, you manifest a Fractured Aura in a 5-foot radius centered on you. Choose one aura option below each time you rage. The chosen aura lasts until your rage ends.
Devouring Aura. The first time each round that a creature you can see within your aura casts a spell, you gain temporary hit points equal to your Constitution modifier (minimum 1).
Anchor Aura. While this aura is active, you have advantage on saving throws against being charmed or frightened. In addition, you gain a +1 bonus to AC against spell attacks.
Rupture Aura. The first time each turn you hit a creature within your aura with a weapon attack, the attack deals an extra 1d4 damage of the same type as the weapon (bludgeoning, piercing, or slashing).
Black Mouth Urge
6th Level Feature:
Your control over the internal Void deepens, allowing you to redirect its hunger through trained aura technique.
While you are raging and have a Fractured Aura active, you can use a bonus action to change your aura choice to a different option from your Fractured Aura feature.
You can do so once per rage.
Controlled Surge. When you change your aura in this way, you gain temporary hit points equal to your Constitution modifier (minimum 1).
Level 10: Fracture Mastery
10th Level Feature: Fracture Mastery
Your mastery over the internal Void sharpens. Your aura grows in reach, and each stance deepens in purpose.
Aura Expansion. While you are raging, your Fractured Aura has a 10-foot radius.
Enhanced Stances. Your Fractured Aura options improve as follows:
Devouring Aura (Improved). The first time each round that a creature you can see within your aura casts a spell, you gain temporary hit points equal to your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus (minimum 1).
Anchor Aura (Improved). While this aura is active, you have its normal benefits. In addition, you have advantage on saving throws against being stunned, paralyzed, or restrained by magical effects.
Rupture Aura (Improved). The extra damage increases to 1d6, and is the same damage type as the weapon used for the attack.
Level 14: Apex Instinct
14th Level Feature:
Your mastery over the internal Void reaches its peak. When you enter a rage, choose one of the following aura states. The chosen state lasts until your rage ends and replaces your Fractured Aura options for that rage.
Sovereign Aura
You seize full control of the hunger and refine it into lethal focus. While raging, you gain a +1 bonus to attack rolls and damage rolls with weapon attacks made against creatures within your aura.
You can use this feature once per Long Rest unless you expend a use of your Rage to restore your use of it.
Mastery Surge. While Sovereign Aura is active, you can use Black Mouth Urges twice per rage instead of once.
Devouring Silence
You temporarily allow the Void to consume what surrounds you. While raging, your aura becomes a silence field. All creatures within your aura, including you, are silenced, and creatures within the aura have resistance to thunder damage.
Silence Pulse. When you choose Devouring Silence as you enter your rage, creatures of your choice within your aura that are concentrating on a spell must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or lose concentration.
