Monk
Base Class: Monk

Learn and Maintain Arcane Knowledge

Warriors of the Archive hone arcane power, seeking to learn and maintain knowledge of all things, both historical and arcane. They often find themselves sleepless in ancient ruins and vast libraries, overwhelmed by a desire for understanding.

Level 3: Spellcasting

You have learned to cast spells.

Cantrips. You know two cantrips of your choice from the Wizard spell list. Whenever you gain a Monk level, you can replace one of these cantrips with another cantrip of your choice from the Wizard spell list.

When you reach Monk level 10, you learn another Wizard cantrip of your choice.

Spell Slots. The Warrior of the Archive Spellcasting table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your level 1+ spells. You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a Long Rest.

Prepared Spells of Level 1+. You prepare a list of level 1+ spells that are available for you to cast with this feature. To start, choose three level 1 spells from the Wizard spell list.

The number of spells on your list increases as you gain Monk levels, as shown in the Prepared Spells column of the Warrior of the Archive Spellcasting table. Whenever that number increases, choose additional spells from the Wizard spell list until the number of spells on your list matches the number on the table. The chosen spells must be of a level for which you have spell slots. For example, if you’re a level 7 Monk, your list of prepared spells can include five Wizard spells of levels 1 and 2 in any combination.

Changing Your Prepared Spells. Whenever you gain a Monk level, you can replace one spell on your list with another Wizard spell for which you have spell slots.

Spellcasting Ability. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for your Wizard spells.

Spellcasting Focus. You can use an Arcane Focus as a Spellcasting Focus for your Wizard spells.

Level 3: Researcher's Journal

Through arcane rituals, you conjure forth a book into your hands at the end of a Short or Long Rest. This Book of Knowledge contains arcane knowledge only you can access, granting you the benefits below. The book disappears if you conjure another book with this feature or if you die.

Archivist's Focus. You can take the Search or Study action as a Bonus Action. When you do so, you can choose to expend a Focus Point to gain Advantage on the check.

Spellcasting Focus. You can use the book as a Spellcasting Focus.

Level 6: Rite of Understanding

While holding your Book of Knowledge, you can cast Legend Lore or Scrying without expending a spell slot. Once you cast either spell in this way, you can't cast that spell again until you finish a Long Rest, unless you expend 3 Focus Points to regain your use of it (no action required).

Level 11: Researcher's Focus

Your Book of Knowledge now grants you the following benefits:

Focused Spellcasting. When you cast a level 1+ Wizard spell, you can cast it by expending a spell slot as normal or by spending a number of Focus Points equal to the spell's level. When you cast a Wizard spell using Focus Points, you can use Stunning Strike on one target of the spell, without expending additional Focus Points.

Analytic. When you deal damage to a creature with an Unarmed Strike or a Wizard spell, you can expend 1 Focus Point to Analyze the target for 10 minutes, or until you Analyze another creature. You always know the distance and direction to the Analyzed creature, it gains no benefit from the Invisible condition for you, and the first time you deal damage to it with an Unarmed Strike or a Wizard spell, it takes extra Force damage equal to one roll of your Martial Arts die.

Level 17: Unfettered Understanding

Your Book of Knowledge now contains untold secrets of the universe. Choose two spells from the Wizard spell list, one 1st and one 2nd level. You can cast the chosen spells without expending a spell slot or Focus Points. You can exchange each of the chosen spells for a different 1st or 2nd level Wizard spell at the end of a Long Rest.
