Base Class: Sorcerer

Swordmages are powerful arcane spellcasters who blended martial combat with magic, often but not always elemental in nature. Ancient traditions of swordmages were common throughout Abeir and parts of Toril, such as Netheril and Evermeet, and were particularly common amongst eladrin, genasi, and githyanki. Wielding swords enchanted with spells, swordmages were powerful foes to cross, hardened through years of training in the melding of spell and blade.

Level 3: Blade Magic

When you reach a Sorcerer level specified in the Blade Magic table, you thereafter always have the listed spells prepared.

Level 3: Swordmage Arsenal

At 3rd level, you gain proficiency with Martial weapons and training with Medium armor and Shields. In addition, you can use a Simple or Martial weapon as a Spellcasting Focus to cast spells from your Sorcerer spell list. When you finish a short or long rest, you can bind with a weapon. Whenever you attack with the bonded weapon, you can use your Charisma modifier for the attack and damage rolls instead of using Strength or Dexterity.

Additionally, when you activate Innate Sorcery , you can spend 2 sorcery points to cast Spiritual Weapon rather than expending a spell slot. When you cast the spell in this way, it doesn’t require Concentration. Instead the spell lasts for 1 minute, but it ends early if you cast the spell again, or if Innate Sorcery ends.

Level 6: Extra Attack

You can attack twice instead of once whenever you take the Attack action on your turn.

In addition, you can cast one of your Sorcerer cantrips that has a casting time of an action in place of one of those attacks

 

Level 14: Swordmage Aegis

While your Innate Sorcery is active, as a bonus action, you can activate following magical effect of your choice. You can do so only once per turn.

  • Assault: You can teleport and magically swap places with your Spiritual Weapon up to 60 feet.
  • Shielding: You place an arcane protection on you, or on a creature you can see within 30 feet of you. When the target takes damage, you can take a reaction to give it resistances to all damage, except psychic, until the beginning of your next turn.

Level 18: Swordmage Pinnacle

You gain the ability to enter a state of transcendent state of arcane prowess. When you activate your Innate Sorcery, you gain the following benefits :

  • Your attacks deal additional 2d6 force damage.
  • You have advantage on attack rolls.
  • You regain 1 Sorcery Point after scoring a critical hit.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a Long Rest unless you spend 5 Sorcery Points (no action required) to restore your use of it.
