Barbarian
Base Class: Barbarian

Barbarians who walk the Path of Roaring Fire find that with hot tempers, come steaming skin, eyes glowing hot like embers, and occasional bursts of searing heat and flames. Their burning passion and dedication inside can be called upon to manifest elemental flame effects, and makes their rages feel like an inferno.

Level 3: Fiery Rage

While raging, the barbarian gains the following benefits:

Fiery Attacks: While raging, flames dance upon the barbarian's body and weapons, adding extra damage and effects to attacks.  When the barbarian deals damage to an enemy with a melee or ranged attack, if it is the first time that enemy has been damaged by the barbarian this round, the damage is increased. Deal 1D6 plus half the barbarian level (round down) additional fire damage as a result of the attack. In addition, if the barbarian wishes, they can force the enemy to make a Constitution saving throw (DC = 8 + Strength Modifier + Proficiency Bonus), and on failure some flammable item worn or carried by the enemy is set on fire. The save automatically succeeds if the enemy is not carrying or wearing any flammable material.

Stirring of Embers: While raging, the barbarian's skin becomes hot to the touch, the eyes flicker as with flames and wisps of smoke or heat distortion can be seen around them. The barbarian gains resistance to fire damage, and to cold damage. The barbarian can use a bonus action to ignite any flammable material that they can touch, unless it is held or worn by a person.

Level 6: Roaring Hearth

The barbarian calls upon their internal fires to create an aura of safety and warmth. The barbarian may spend one of their rage uses to generate an aura of warmth and protection in a 20' radius from the barbarian. Within the aura, all creatures have resistance to cold damage, and are protected from harms due to conventional cold. Skill checks made for the purpose of healing or recovery within the aura may be made with advantage. If the barbarian wishes, dim light may emanate throughout the range of the aura, flickering like firelight.

The aura can last up to 1 hour, and requires concentration by the barbarian - the aura can be maintained through a short rest without penalty to the barbarian. If the aura is in use during a short rest, the barbarian may choose to use one or more of their hit dice to heal that amount of damage to a companion within the aura, instead of themselves.

Level 10: Fiery Rebuke

When raging, and damaged by an enemy the barbarian can see within 20', the barbarian may use their reaction to blast the enemy with a flaming burst. The enemy makes a Dexterity saving throw (Difficulty: 8 + Str Modifier + Proficiency Bonus), taking 3D10 fire damage on failure, and half as much on success.

The fiery rebuke may be activated up to the barbarian's rage damage times per rage.

Level 14: Fiery Avatar

When the barbarian activates a rage, if they are not wearing heavy armor they may become a Fiery Avatar for up to 1 minute. The barbarian moves with the fleetness and unpredictability of an out of control blaze, and sheds heat like an unstoppable force. As the fiery avatar, the barbarian has the following benefits:

  • The barbarian is immune to fire damage, and cold damage.
  • The barbarian's speed increases by 10', and they gain a climbing speed equal to their walking speed.
  • Their armor class increases by 1, due to the heat and flames surrounding them.
  • Ember Burst: The barbarian may use an action to cause a flaming burst affecting all creatures within 20'. Creatures in that range must make a Dexterity saving throw (Difficulty: 8 + Str Modifier + Proficiency Bonus). If they fail, creatures take 3D10 fire damage, and are pushed 10' away from the barbarian as long as they are large or smaller. If they succeed, they take half damage, and are not pushed. Additionally, flammable items that are not held or worn are set alight within the blast radius.

The Fiery Avatar state ends if the rage ends, or can be ended anytime by the barbarian (no action required). Once the barbarian has become the Fiery Avatar, they cannot do so again until they finish a long rest.
