Base Class: Monk
Monastic Tradition
Monks of the Way of Change believe the body is a living scripture, written through pain and rewritten through survival. By enduring harm without breaking, they force their Marks to evolve, becoming living proof that adaptation is the highest form of mastery. The longer they endure a conflict, the more perfectly suited they become to overcome it.
3rd-Level Features
Form Beyond Sustenance
Your body has been forged through relentless torment, adapting to flourish where life is meant to break. You gain the following benefits:
- You no longer require food or water.
- You are immune to disease.
- You have advantage on saving throws to avoid or end the poisoned condition.
- You are unaffected by extreme heat, extreme cold, high altitude, prolonged sun exposure, and similar natural environmental hazards.
- You do not suffer exhaustion from environmental effects.
- You do not need to sleep, and magic cannot put you to sleep. You must still spend 8 hours resting to gain the benefits of a long rest.
Blossom of Change
Beginning at 3rd level, your body instinctively evolves in response to harm.
Whenever you take damage of a specific damage type and are not reduced to 0 hit points, you gain one Adaptation Tier for that damage type. Each damage type is tracked separately.
You gain an Adaptation Tier only if you take damage; if the damage is reduced to 0, no adaptation occurs.
Adaptation Tiers
The effects below are cumulative for each damage type.
|
Tier |
Effect |
|
1 |
Reduce damage of that type by one roll of your Martial Arts die + your Wisdom modifier. |
|
2 |
You gain resistance to that damage type. |
|
3 |
You further reduce damage of that type by one additional roll of your Martial Arts die + your Wisdom modifier. |
|
4 |
You gain immunity to that damage type. |
You can gain only one Adaptation Tier per round, as your body can process only one evolutionary response at a time. This limit resets at the start of your next turn.
Forced Bloom.
If you have already gained an Adaptation Tier during the current round, you may use your reaction and spend 2 Focus points to gain one additional Adaptation Tier. You may do so either when you would gain your first Adaptation Tier for that damage type or when you take damage, applying the new tier to the triggering damage.
All Adaptation Tiers fade after 10 minutes due to the sheer amount of strain it has on your body.
6th-Level Features
Thornbound Frame
Pain taught your body how to change. Now experience teaches it how to dominate. Your adaptations extend to physical states, allowing you to shrug off debilitating effects and tear through the defenses your enemies evolve to rely on.
- You are immune to being pushed or pulled against your will.
- You no longer need to breathe.
Petal Reflex
Your mark has learned to resist harm as it occurs.
When you are subjected to a condition (such as blinded, charmed, frightened, grappled, paralyzed, poisoned, restrained, or stunned), you can use your reaction immediately as the condition is applied, or use a bonus action on subsequent turns, to spend 1 ki point to end the condition instantly.
After using this feature, you have advantage on saving throws against that condition for 1 minute as you adapt to overcome the condition.
This feature works against both magical and nonmagical effects.
Radiant Efflorescence
Your blows evolve to pierce hardened defenses.
Whenever you hit with an unarmed strike:
- You may choose for the attack to deal radiant damage instead of its normal damage type.
- The attack deals additional radiant damage equal to your Wisdom modifier.
Additionally, when you hit a creature with an unarmed strike, you can spend 1 ki point to adapt to its defenses. Choose one damage type to which the creature has resistance. Until the start of your next turn, that creature loses resistance to the chosen damage type.
You can use this feature once per turn.
11th-Level Features
Ephemeral Evolution
Your evolution now accelerates in the crucible of combat, blooming with potential.
- You can now gain two Adaptation Tiers per round, rather than one.
- Forced Bloom now costs 1 ki point instead of 2.
- You can use Adaptive Strike twice per turn.
When you use Adaptive Strike, you may now choose a damage type to which the target is immune. Until the start of your next turn, that immunity is treated as resistance.
Renewed Flesh
Your body regrows what was lost, old wounds heal, but the pain remains.
If you are missing an appendage, organ, or other body part, you can use your action and spend 3 ki points to regenerate it. The body part is fully restored at the start of your next turn.
17th-Level Features
Perfected Form
Your evolution has surpassed mortal limits.
- You are immune to exhaustion.
- You no longer age, and magic cannot age you.
- You gain truesight out to a range of 120 feet.
Self Embodiment of Perfection
As an action, you can spend 5 ki points to temporarily fully awaken the Blossom of Change for 1 minute.
While this feature is active:
- You immediately gain Tier 2 Adaptation (resistance) to all damage types.
- You cannot be stunned, restrained, grappled, paralyzed, frightened, or knocked prone.
- Your unarmed strikes ignore resistance to damage.
- Damage immunity is treated as resistance against your unarmed strikes.
The transformation ends early if you are reduced to 0 hit points or die.
Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
