Base Class: Rogue
Rogues who have sent out on countless assassination missions, rogues who have done work in the shadowfell, and rogues who have become one with darkness and bloodlust are nothing new, but if a rogue truly begins to accept this way of life, they may be chosen for greatness by the shadows themselves. Rogues chosen to become shadow shrouded become something unlike anything ever seen by a typical rogue. Shadow shrouded are thought to be just myths by most thieves guilds and kingdoms, and the rumors about them seem like something out of this world. Their shadow splitting from them, melting into the shadows, freezing their foes in fear, and peering into the souls of their victims. But these rumors do indead have some truth behind them.
Level 3: Eyes in the Dark
When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, your experience with the raw magic of the shadows affects your senses. You gain darkvision with a range of 120 feet.
Level 3: Manifest Shrouded one
You've spent so much of your life working in the shadows that you have learned how to bring your own shadow to life.
You can use a bonus action to magically manifest a shroud of yourself in an unoccupied space you can see within 15 feet of you. This shroud is a magical, pitch black image of you that lasts until it is destroyed, until you dismiss it as a bonus action, until you manifest another shroud, or until you’re incapacitated.
Your echo has AC 12 + your Dex modifier, 1 hit point, and immunity to all conditions. If it has to make a saving throw, it uses your saving throw bonus for the roll. It is the same size as you, and it occupies its space. On your turn, you can mentally command the shroud to move up to 30 feet in any direction (no action required).
You can use the shroud in the following ways:
- As a bonus action, you can teleport, magically swapping places with your shroud at the cost of half of your movement, regardless of the distance between the two of you.
- When you take the Attack action on your turn, any attack you make with that action can originate from your space or the shroud’s space. You make this choice for each attack.
- When a creature that you can see within 5 feet of your shroud moves at least 5 feet away from it, you can use your reaction to make an opportunity attack against that creature as if you were in the shroud’s space.
Level 9: Shrouded Step
While entirely within Dim Light or Darkness, you can use a Bonus Action to teleport up to 60 feet to an unoccupied space you can see that is also in Dim Light or Darkness. You then have Advantage on the next melee attack you make before the end of the current turn.
Level 13: Dark Link
You can temporarily transfer your consciousness to your shroud. As an action, you can see through your shroud’s eyes and hear through its ears. During this time, you are deafened and blinded. You can sustain this effect for a number of minutes equal to your proficiency bonus + Dex modifier, and you can end it at any time (requires no action).
Level 17: Void Shroud
You have caused so much carnage with your shroud that those around it feel as if they are staring at death itself.
When you summon your shroud, you gain the following abilities:
- Your Shroud can now seem like a blurry, but realistic image of you. At first glance, your shroud looks just almost exactly like you, requiring an Investigation check DC (10 + Prof. bonus + Cha modifier) to desern that it is a fake.
- Your shroud now gives off an aura of despair and death whenever it's around. As an action, you can cause both you and your shroud to emanate a 30ft aura of dread and despair for 1 minute. Any creatures of your choice within the auras must make a Wis save DC (8 + double prof. bonus + Dex modifier). On a failed save, the creature is Frightened of both you and your shroud for 1 minute. On a success, the creature's speed is halved while in the aura and their next attack roll is at disadvantage. A creature can repeat the save as an action at the start of it's turn, ending the effect after 2 successes.
