Base Class: Cleric
Clerics of the Phoenix Domain serve the eternal flame that consumes only to renew. To them, fire is not mere destruction — it is transformation. Forests burn so that new growth may rise. Flesh is cauterized so that life may continue. Even death is not an ending, but a turning of the cycle.
The Phoenix is revered as the living symbol of resilience: a divine blaze that cannot be extinguished, only reborn. Its faithful teach that despair is a lie told in the coldest hour, for even the smallest ember holds the promise of dawn. Ruin is not the opposite of life — it is the crucible in which life is reforged.
Temples devoted to the Phoenix keep ever-burning braziers whose embers are said to hold the memory of those who have fallen. Ash from sacred pyres is preserved in reliquaries, mixed into ink for holy texts, or scattered in fields to bless the next season’s growth. Among the faithful, cremation is not an act of mourning, but of reverence — a final offering to the flame that will carry the soul onward.
Clerics of this domain stride into battle wreathed in sacred fire, their flames scorching foes while mending allies in the same breath. To witness one at war is to see destruction and restoration entwined — a wildfire that leaves vitality in its wake. They do not shy from sacrifice, nor do they fear the pyre. When they fall, they do not remain fallen. The Phoenix teaches that hope burns brightest when pressed by darkness, and that from every ash, something stronger will rise.
Where others see only devastation, these clerics see renewal waiting to happen.
🔥 Roleplaying a Phoenix Cleric
Clerics of the Phoenix Domain often carry themselves with quiet intensity. They may speak of hardship not as tragedy, but as necessary change. Many are drawn to places of ruin — battlefields, burned villages, broken communities — believing their purpose is to help kindle new beginnings.
Consider the following traits when portraying a Phoenix cleric:
-
You see setbacks as fuel for growth. Failure is not defeat, but preparation.
-
You may have a ritual relationship with flame — lighting candles before rest, burning letters after reading them, or carrying a coal from a sacred fire.
-
You struggle to accept stagnation. If something is decaying without purpose, perhaps it must burn.
-
You find beauty in endings, believing every close is the start of another ascent.
-
You are slow to despair and slower still to surrender.
Some Phoenix clerics are compassionate healers who believe pain must be eased so renewal can begin. Others are fierce purifiers who see corruption as tinder meant for sacred fire. Whether gentle ember or raging inferno, you embody the truth that nothing truly ends — it only changes form.

Level 3: Flame of Renewal
Your divine fire restores as it destroys.
When you deal Fire damage with a spell of 1st level or higher, choose one creature you can see within 30 feet of you (including yourself). That creature regains Hit Points equal to:

You gain Resistance to Fire damage.
Additionally whenever you deal damage with a weapon or cleric spell, you may change the damage type to fire. Damage dealt this way ignores damage resistances and treats any immunities as resistance.
Whenever you deal fire damage you deal extra fire damage equal to half your cleric level (rounded up).

You become the living embodiment of rebirth.
As a Bonus Action, you transform for 1 minute:

If you are reduced to 0 Hit Points during this transformation, you instead under go the effects of Ashen Rebirth and the transformation immediately ends.
Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a Long Rest.
