Ranger
Base Class: Ranger

Venomancers are alchemists who have mastered the art of weaponizing nature’s deadliest secretions. Through meticulous study and careful preparation, they craft potent venoms that seep into their enemies’ veins, weakening defenses and disrupting vital functions. These specialists do not rely on brute force; instead, they manipulate toxins to control the battlefield, turning even the toughest foes into vulnerable prey.

Skilled with a Poisoner’s Kit and guided by keen observation, Venomancers apply their venomous afflictions with precision. Their toxins linger, dealing recurring damage and sapping the strength of those unfortunate enough to be struck. As their power grows, their poisons begin to spread, leaping from one weakened foe to another, infecting entire groups and tipping the scales of battle in their favour.

Rather than trading blows, Venomancers excel at debilitating enemies to empower their allies. Their venom reduces the armor of afflicted foes, making them easier targets, while their spreading toxins force enemies to fight not only the Venomancer but the creeping poison that threatens to overwhelm them. At the pinnacle of their craft, Venomancers wield toxins so potent they can stun even the hardiest adversaries and bypass ordinary immunities to poison.

In the hands of a Venomancer, the battlefield becomes a deadly laboratory where every strike is a calculated experiment in pain and control. Their mastery of venom turns the tide of combat through subtlety, strategy, and the relentless spread of corruption.

Level 3: Toxic Expertise

At 3rd level, you gain proficiency with the Poisoner’s Kit. If you already have proficiency, you instead gain Expertise with it, doubling your proficiency bonus for any ability checks made with the kit.

Your mastery of toxins allows you to bypass natural resistances. When you deal poison damage, you ignore resistance to poison damage. This benefit applies only to poison damage you deal.

When you apply a nonmagical poison to a weapon using a Poisoner’s Kit, the first creature that makes a saving throw against that poison does so with disadvantage.

If a creature fails a saving throw against a poison you applied, you can apply your Venom Strike feature to that creature without expending a use of it. This still counts as using Venom Strike once per turn.

Level 3: Venom Strike

Starting at 3rd level, when you deal damage to a creature with a weapon attack or a Ranger spell, you can invoke your venomous power to force the target to make a Constitution saving throw against your Ranger spell save DC. You can use this feature once per turn.

You have a number of uses equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of 1). You regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

On a failed save, the target is Afflicted for up to 1 minute. The Affliction ends early if the target succeeds on a saving throw made at the end of its turn (see below).

Afflicted (Venom Strike)

  • Start of each of its turns: The target takes poison damage equal to your proficiency bonus.
  • Poisoned: If the target isn’t immune to the Poisoned condition, it is also Poisoned while Afflicted.
  • End of each of its turns: The target repeats the Constitution saving throw, ending the Affliction on a success.

On a successful save, the target takes poison damage equal to your proficiency bonus and isn’t Afflicted.

The poison created by this feature is magical.

Level 7: Corrosive Venom

At 7th level, your venom weakens your foes’ defenses as it courses through their veins.

The poison damage dealt by your Venom Affliction increases to your proficiency bonus plus your Wisdom modifier.

While a creature is Afflicted by your Venom Strike, it suffers a reduction to its Armor Class equal to your proficiency bonus.

You also gain resistance to poison damage and advantage on saving throws to avoid or end the Poisoned condition on yourself.

Level 11: Contagious Venom

At 11th level, your toxins leap between weakened foes, spreading your venomous affliction.

When a creature takes damage from your Venom Affliction at the start of its turn, you can use your reaction to force another creature of your choice within 15 feet of it (other than the damaged creature) to make a Constitution saving throw against your Ranger spell save DC.

On a failed save, the secondary creature takes poison damage equal to your Venom Affliction damage and becomes Afflicted by your Venom Strike until the effect ends.

Level 15: Potent Venom

At 15th level, your toxins overwhelm even the hardiest prey.

  • A creature Afflicted by your Venom Strike has disadvantage on Constitution saving throws.

  • If a creature fails three saving throws against the same instance of your Venom Affliction before that Affliction ends, the creature is Stunned until the end of its next turn.
(The three failed saves include the initial save made when the Affliction is applied and any subsequent saves made to end the Affliction.)

  • Your poison damage ignores immunity to poison damage. This benefit applies only to poison damage you deal.
