Base Class: Barbarian
Barbarians who follow the Path of the Crying God draw their strength not from blind fury, but from endurance, compassion, and an unyielding will to bear suffering for the sake of others. Inspired by Ilmater, the Crying God, these warriors believe that pain can be endured, cruelty can be opposed, and that the strong must sometimes suffer so the weak may stand.
Such barbarians are often calm and patient, slow to anger and quick to show mercy. Yet when confronted with true cruelty or needless suffering, their restraint breaks, and their rage becomes a divine expression of resolve rather than hatred. In battle they stand where others fall, taking wounds meant for their allies and refusing to yield even when their bodies fail them.
To strike a follower of the Crying God is to feel one’s own violence returned in radiant force. To face one in battle is to learn that endurance can be more frightening than fury.
Sacred Endurance
When you choose this path at 3rd level, your Rage becomes a holy state of suffering.
Divine Rage
While raging, your Rage damage bonus deals Radiant Damage instead of the normal weapon damage type.
Bear the Burden
During Rage, whenever an ally within 30 ft. would take damage, you can use your reaction to take half of that damage instead. This damage bypasses your Rage resistance and cannot be reduced in any way.
Additionally, whenever you take damage from another creature’s redirected damage in this way, you gain temporary hit points equal to your Constitution modifier (minimum of 1).
Strength Through Pain
At 6th level, pain empowers you. While raging:
When you take damage from a creature within 5 feet of you, you gain a cumulative +1 bonus to attack rolls against that creature (max +3).
When your hit points drop below half, you emanate divine Bright Light in a 10-foot radius and Dim Light for an additional 5 feet. Allies within the Emanation gain advantage on saving throws against being frightened.
Perseverance
Starting at 10th level, whenever you would be reduced to 0 hit points while raging, you may remain at 1 hit point instead.
If you do, up to three allies within 30 feet regain hit points equal to your Barbarian level.
You may use this feature once per long rest.
Saint of Agony
At 14th level, you become pain incarnate. While raging:
You gain Resistance to all damage except psychic.
Whenever a creature hits you with a melee attack, it takes Radiant Damage equal to your Rage damage bonus.
Additionally, if you willingly take damage to protect an ally using the Sacred Endurance feature, that ally gains advantage on their next attack roll or saving throw before the end of their next turn.
