Level 3: Mystical Pursuit

Mystical pursuits shape your use or Tarot, and grant additional spells and abilities. When you reach 3rd level, you choose an mystical pursuit from the list of available pursuits, shaping your use of tarot.

Your choice grants you features at 3rd level and again at 6th, 10th, and 14th level.

Numerology

Numerologists are prognosticators who have devoted their studies to the mystical power of numbers, deciphering the patterns that govern the universe, and using their knowledge to influence fate and probability.

They understand that numbers are the building blocks of reality, and by interpreting and manipulating numerical values, Numerologists can alter the course of events or omen.

With the vast knowledge of numerology at your command, you become a master of probability, shaping destinies and bending luck to your will.

Divine Numbers. Starting at 3rd level, you can manipulate probability to activate special abilities when specific numbers are rolled by anyone within 60 feet of you. When you finish a long rest, choose a number between 1 and 20. Until you take another long rest, whenever that number is rolled on a d20 by anyone within 60 feet of you, you can use your reaction to choose one your Divine Numbers to take effect. You can use your reaction to activate this ability a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest.

When you gain this feature, choose 3 Divine Numbers. Whenever you gain a level in this subclass you can change out one Divine Number. You gain an additional Divine Number at level 6, and at level 10.

Mirrors. At 6th level, your understanding of Numerology allows you to further influence the rolls of others. When using your Divine Numbers feature, you can now choose two different numbers between 1 and 20.

Prisms. Starting at 10th level, your mastery of Numerology extends to a third significant number. When using your Divine Numbers feature, choose three different numbers between 1 and 20.

Tesselations. At 14th level, your deep understanding of the numerological forces enables you to harness their power more effectively.

The range you can use rolls from for your Divine Numbers is now 120 feet rather than 60.

Additionally, when using your Divine Numbers feature, you can choose to activate two Divine Number effects when a Divine Number is rolled.

Level 3: Retelling

As an action, you extend your reading of the cards to the future. Draw cards to replenish your hand up to your maximum hand size.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Short Rest. If you spend at least 30 minutes during a Short Rest performing a Retelling, you can use this feature at no cost.

Level 3: Rejection

Starting at 5th level, you gain the ability to reject the fate presented to you by your tarot deck. As an action, discard any number of cards from your hand. Then, draw the same number of cards from your tarot deck to add to your hand.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus. You regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Starting at 9th level, instead of your whole hand, you can choose the number of cards to discard. This represents your growing mastery over the tarot, and your ability to change the course of events when the situation calls for it.

Providences

At 2nd level, the Prognosticator unlocks the power of Providence, allowing them to customize and enhance their tarot deck to suit their personal play style and strategy.

By focusing on the mystical energies within their cards, Prognosticators can empower specific suits or modify the effects of individual cards, creating a truly unique deck tailored to their needs and the challenges they face.

Whenever you gain a level in this class, you can change out one Providence for another, provided you meet the prerequisites for that Providence. You gain more Providences as you level in this class, as seen on the Prognosticator table.

Greed

By embracing your inner greed, you can now draw more cards at the expense of your hand size.

While under the effects of Greed, your hand size is permanently reduced by 1, and you draw 2 cards when refilling your hand. You always keep only one card, and discard the other.

Repeatable. This Providence can be taken more than once. With each additional instance, you hand size descreases by 1, and your draw cards increase by 2. However, only one card is ever kept, and all others are discarded.

King of Cups

You can now play any Cups suit from your hand as a Reaction instead of as a bonus action.

King of Pentacles

When you play any Pentacles suit from your hand, you can play that card as a Reaction at any time instead of as a Bonus Action.

King of Swords

When you play any Swords suit from your hand, you can play that card as a Reaction instead of as a Bonus Action.

King of Wands

You can now play any Wands suit from your hand as a reaction instead of as a bonus action.

Knight of Cups

When you play a suit of Cups card from your hand, its range is extended by 30 feet.

Knight of Pentacles

When you play a suit of Pentacles card from your hand, treat the Ace and Two as the Three, and the Four and Five as the Six.

Knight of Swords

When you play a suit of Swords card from your hand, its range is extended by 30 feet.

Knight of Wands

When you play a suit of Wands card from your hand, you can also cast Fire Bolt with the same bonus action.

Ordaining

You have learned to share the power of your tarot deck with your allies, allowing them to wield its potent effects.

As an action, you can give an ally within range a card from your hand. This Ordained card will remain in the ally's possession until it is played, and is not reshuffled at long rest. When played, its effects occur as if they were a Prognosticator of your level, using your Providence's and spellcasting ability modifier for any effects that require it.

Each card you give out reduces your maximum size by 1. As an action, you can send all Ordained cards to their respective discard piles, regardless of distance.

Page of Cups

When you play a suit of Cups card from your hand, you can play that card as a bonus action instead of as an action.

Page of Pentacles

When you play a suit of Pentacles card from your hand, you can play that card as a Bonus Action instead of as an Action.

Page of Swords

When you play a suit of Swords card from your hand, you can play that card as a bonus action instead of as an action.

Page of Wands

When you play a suit of Wands card from your hand, you can play that card as a bonus action instead of as an action.

Prophecy

The possible futures revealed by your cards can now be subtly guided by your hand.

As an action or bonus action, you can set aside and reserve a card from your hand. This Prophecy card will remain in your possession until it is played. It is not reshuffled at long rest, is not considered part of your hand, and does not count towards your maximum hand size.

It can be played at any time, subject to the normal rules that apply to the card's effects and its suit. If you wish to reserve a different card, you must first play or discard the current Prophecy card as an action.

Repeatable. This Providence can be taken more than once. Each additional instance increases the number of Prophecy cards you can hold by 1.

Queen of Cups

When you play any Cups suit from your hand, if the effect heals an ally, it also heals you for the same amount.

Queen of Pentacles

When you play any Pentacles suit from your hand, if the effect would normally only target you, you can target an ally within 30 feet instead.

Queen of Swords

When you play any Swords suit from your hand, you don't provoke Opportunity Attacks for the rest of the current turn.

Queen of Wands

When you play any "Wands" suit from your hand, instead of Fire Bolt you can cast any spell with a casting time of an action or less with the same bonus action.

Risk

You can rely on the whims of fate to play your cards, taking a risk to potentially conserve your resources or risk losing them entirely.

Before you play any card, you can choose to activate Risk. When activated, roll a d20. On a result of 8-20, the effects occur as normal, and the card remains in your hand. On a result of 1-7, the card's magic dissipates with no effect, and the Action, Bonus Action or Reaction used to play the card are wasted. Place the card in its discard pile.

On each subsequent activation of Risk, a cumulative -2 penalty is applied to the d20 roll. This penalty is reset after you finish a long rest.

Sway

You begin to see the strings of fate in the cards, and learn how to gently sway them in other directions.

When you pick this Providence, choose one of the four Minor Arcana suits. Whenever card of that suit enters your hand, you may choose to discard it immediately and draw a new card from your deck. You can only use this feature once per turn.

Repeatable. This Providence can be taken more than once, but you must choose a different suit each time.

The Alliance of Knights

When you have two or more Knight cards in your hand, you can discard them all as an action to summon a powerful ally. Pick one suit from the discarded Pages and perform its Providence effect.

The Contrivance of Kings

When you have two or more King cards in your hand, you can discard them all as an action to perform a unique effect. Pick one suit from the discarded Kings and perform its Providence effect.

The Gathering of Pages

When you have two or more Page cards in your hand, you can discard them all as an Action to perform a unique effect. Pick one suit from the discarded Pages and perform its Providence effect.

The Union of Queens

When you have two or more Queen cards in your hand, you can discard them all as an Action to perform a unique effect. Pick one suit from the discarded Queens and perform its Providence effect.

Hidden feature to create custom spell list

Cartomancy

You know how to harness the power of the Tarot and use its cards to manipulate fate. As a Prognosticator, you have a deep connection to your Tarot deck, and with each level, your connection with the cards grows stronger.

Playing Tarot Cards. Whenever you play a card (as an action with a free hand), you then discard it into one of two discard piles, one for minor arcana and one for major arcana.

Tarot Hand. Your hand contains the cards you draw from your deck. Major Arcana cards will give you access to spells according to your Prognosticator levels, and Minor Arcana cards have unique effects that can be activated or applied. Unless stated otherwise, a Minor Arcana's effect lasts up to one minute. Your hand size increases as you gain Prognosticator levels, to four at 5th level, five at 9th level, six at 13th level, and seven at 18th level.

Tarot Deck. Your Tarot Deck includes all the Minor Arcana cards and only the Major Arcana cards that you have connected with and are now empowered to wield. After each Long Rest, you recombine your discard piles, deck, and hand, and shuffle them before drawing a new hand. Your deck can be used as a Spellcasting Focus for your Prognosticator spells.

Prognosticator Spellcasting

Through your deep connection to the Tarot, you can cast spells.

Cantrips. You know two Prognosticator cantrips of your choice. Whenever you finish a Long Rest, you can replace one of your cantrips from this feature with another Prognosticator cantrip of your choice.

When you reach Prognosticator levels 10 and 14, you learn another Prognosticator cantrip of your choice.

Spell Slots. The Prognosticator features table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your level 1+ spells. You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a Long Rest.

Prepared Spells of Level 1+. You prepare the list of level 1+ spells that are available for you to cast with this feature. When you do so, choose a number of Prognosticator spells equal to your Wisdom modifier + half your Prognosticator level (rounded down). The spells must be of a level for which you have spell slots.

Casting the spell doesn't remove it from your list of prepared spells.

Changing Your Prepared Spells. You can change your list of prepared spells when you finish a long rest. Preparing a new list of Prognosticator spells requires time spent in studying your Tarot deck, at least 1 minute per spell level for each spell on your list.

Spellcasting Ability. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for your Wizard spells.

Spellcasting Focus. You can use an Arcane Focus or your Tarot Deck as a Spellcasting Focus for your Prognosticator spells.

Tarot Deck

Major Arcana. At 1st level, you start with three Major Arcana cards in your deck. These are cards of remarkable power, capable of casting spells upon their use. The number of spells available to your through each card increases as you gain Prognosticator levels. Spells cast through a Major Arcana card are always cast at their lowest level, regardless of your Prognosticator level.

When you cast a spell with a Major Arcana card, you can cast it without any material components, however all other requirements must still be met. Spells cast with a Major Arcana have a casting time of one action regardless of the normal casting time, and do not require spell slots to use.

Minor Arcana. You always have all Minor Arcana cards available to you in your deck. When you play a Minor Arcana card (as an action with a free hand) to apply its effects, it has a casting time of one action, unless affected by a Providence.

Tarot Hand. Your hand consists of three Tarot cards, drawn from your deck. Your hand size increases as you gain Prognosticator levels, to four at 5th level, five at 9th level, six at 13th level, and seven at 18th level.
