Base Class: Barbarian
(Exclusive to the One and Only; Bubba Gumbo Himself)
This one’s for Bubba and Bubba alone. No other river-born glutton gets to walk this path; it’s the wild-magic spark that first lit up his silt-slick brain, the divine warmth of Festus in his blood, and eighty years of grease-blotted recipes all simmered together into something that turns a battlefield into the best damn dinner party anyone’s ever crashed.
This path is woven straight from Bubba’s silt-deep soul: the wild-magic zap that woke his mind, Festus’ warm hearth-fire in his blood, and eighty years of slow, honest cooking for anyone with a mouth for the living, dead, mindless, ghostly, or otherwise. He doesn’t rage. He simmers. When the Feast Trance drops, that massive, chonky, blue-gray body, thick barrel chest, heavy rounded gut that sways and jiggles with every slow step, powerful tree-trunk thighs straining his grease-stained apron, and that broad scarred tail lazily thumping behind him, becomes a walking open-air kitchen. Sweat glistens on his scales, the apron clings tight to every soft, powerful curve of his chubby frame, and those long curling whiskers twitch, tasting garlic, smoke, blood, and second chances in the air.
Flavor in Bubba’s own slow, warm drawl: “I ain’t here to hurt nobody, sugar. I’m here to make sure nobody leaves hungry, not the party, not the zombies, not the ghosts, not even that one-handed lich if he ever sits still long enough for a proper plate. When the Feast Trance hits… everybody eats. Mindless or not. Dead or alive. Full belly, full heart. And if Vecna ever bad-mouths my seasoning again… well, that hand’s goin’ in Old Belcher whether he likes it or not.”
Level 3: Feast Trance [3]
Instead of the usual rage, you can enter a Feast Trance which lasts either 10 minutes or until the cooking session is over. While in the Feast Trance you gain:
Resistance to slashing, piercing, fire and acid damage.
You and every friendly creature (this includes enemies paused in combat since they decided to eat with them) within 30 feet gain temporary hit points equal to your Constitution modifier at the start of your turn. The air fills with the rich, comforting smell of fresh gumbo and warm cornbread.
Any cooking implement (skillet, cleaver, ladle, Old Belcher) counts as a martial melee weapon dealing 1d8 bludgeoning/slashing + 1d6 fire damage.
Which ontop of this, if you are actively making a meal for your allies and enemies if they join in, all effects doubles.
You can use this as much times as you can rage (cause it replaces rage, but keeps these --> Strength Advantage. | No Concentration or Spells.).
No Trance
(Trance isn't active)
Trance Active
Trance is active, gaining the benefits from it
The Traveling Pantry [3]
As an attack action while in a Feast Trance, you can pull out a quick “Taste Test” or sip and offer it to any creature within 30 feet ally, enemy, mindless undead, ghost, construct, elemental, whatever. No immunity or mindless trait blocks this; your food carries the warmth of Festus and the wild magic that first woke you up.
- Ally (or willing creature): They gain a +1d4 towards any d20 roll of their choosing till the next longrest (half bubba's con modifier for how much it can be used, and can stack), plus hp equal to half Bubba-Gumbo's Cooking roll (unless he crits).
- Enemy (or unwilling creature): They must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier) or be charmed by you until the end of your next turn. While charmed they cannot attack you or your allies and will spend their movement trying to get closer to the delicious smells, possibly even becoming neutral or friendly if gm allows it! (they won’t take obviously self-destructive actions).
You can hand out Taste Tests a number of times equal to your Constitution modifier (minimum 1) per Feast Trance. Even zombies stop shambling and sit down for a bite. Ghosts become solid enough to chew. Mindless things just… eat. Because Bubba’s cooking bypasses “can’t eat” the same way it bypasses “can’t feel.”
Bubba’s Cookbook [3]
Every recipe feeds up to (CON-MOD X 2) creatures of any type (your cooking just works; zombies chew, golems taste metal and feel appreciated, oozes bubble happily, dragons get that perfect char). Buffs last 1 hour unless noted. Creature-type ingredients add the perfect thematic punch because Bubba has spent decades learning exactly how to honor every “misunderstood delicacy.”

SPECIAL MEALS (Permanent Buffs with long-rest production; can't use willy-nilly, one time use)
These are the rare, deeply personal dishes Bubba only prepares when the moment feels right. They require a full long rest (8 hours of slow, careful cooking while the party rests around the fire), and at least one unique, irreplaceable ingredient. The results are permanent once eaten, the buff stays with the creature forever (or until dispelled by something truly legendary like a wish). Because these use pieces of Bubba himself or truly legendary trophies, they feel intimate, almost sacred…
Whisker of the River Titan (requires one of Bubba’s own whiskers — it does not grow back) Bubba carefully slices off one of his long, thick, curling whiskers with Old Belcher and braises it slow in a reduction of river-root, garlic, and wild-magic spark. The dish is served as a single, glistening, tender “noodle” laid across a bed of perfectly seasoned rice and herbs. Permanent Buff: The eater gains +1 to their Constitution score maximum becomes 22. They also gain the ability to breathe water and resistance to poison (stacking with existing resistances).
Flavor & Feel: The whisker is surprisingly meaty, warm, and faintly electric with wild magic. When the eater bites down, they feel Bubba’s own slow, comforting heartbeat for a moment; many end up pressing their face into his heavy, sweat-damp gut right after, sighing as the sauce drips down his thick blue-gray fingers and onto their lips. Bubba always looks a little vulnerable afterward, one fewer whisker curling from his wide maw, but he smiles that big, honest smile and says “worth it, sugar.”
Old Belcher’s Heart-Scale (requires a scale harvested from Bubba’s own chest, right over the Festus tattoo; it does not grow back) Bubba pries off one of his tough, shimmering heart-scales and slow-roasts it until it’s crispy outside, tender and rich inside, then serves it atop a bed of braised root vegetables and his signature gumbo reduction.
Permanent Buff: The eater’s hit point maximum permanently increases by 5 per level. They also gain resistance to fire damage.
Flavor & Feel: The scale tastes like hearth-fire, smoked paprika, and something deeply personal. Eating it feels like being wrapped in Bubba’s warm, chubby embrace. The party often watches in quiet awe as the massive catfish chef’s gut jiggles softly while he plates it, apron riding up just enough to show the fresh scar where the scale used to be.
Titan’s Belly Fat Trimmings (requires a small, carefully trimmed piece of Bubba’s own heavy gut far it does not grow back, and the scar remains visible as a soft, pale line across his chubby belly) Bubba renders down a sliver of his own rich, marbled belly fat and uses it to confit a prime cut of whatever legendary beast the party brought back. The result is the most unctuous, melt-in-your-mouth dish imaginable.
Permanent Buff: The eater gains resistance to bludgeoning damage (or a permanent +2 to hp per level) and +1 to their Strength or Constitution score with a maximum con of 22 now.
Flavor & Feel: Insanely rich, buttery, and deeply comforting; like being hugged from the inside by the gentlest river giant alive. Many recipients end up resting their head against Bubba’s now-slightly-trimmed gut afterward, listening to it rumble contentedly while grease shines on his whiskers and the apron clings damply to the fresh scar.
Festus’ Flame-Touched Cleaver Shard (requires a tiny shard broken from Old Belcher itself; the pot magically repairs the shard over 30 days, Bubba melts the iron shard into the dish, infusing it with divine hearth-fire. Served as a single, perfectly seared medallion.
Permanent Buff: The eater’s melee weapon attacks (or natural weapons) deal an extra 1d6 fire damage permanently. They also gain proficiency with cook’s utensils and can add half their proficiency bonus to any cooking or brewing check.
Flavor & Feel: Smoky, metallic, and strangely loving; like biting into pure comfort and flame at the same time. Recipients often feel the urge to hug the massive, sweaty chef right after, their hands sinking into the soft chub of his sides while he chuckles low and warm.
Vecna’s Regret Special (requires the lich’s own hand if you ever manage to take it) Bubba slow-cooks it with extra cumin, spite, and love until it’s fall-apart tender.
Permanent Buff: The eater gains advantage on all saving throws against undead and necromancy effects, plus their attacks deal an extra 1d8 radiant damage against undead creatures permanently while also gaining resistance to necrotic, with immunity to poison, disease, and poisoned.
Flavor & Feel: Darkly satisfying with a lingering “that’s what you get for insulting my seasoning” aftertaste. Bubba always mutters the same line while stirring, his heavy gut pressed against the pot, apron damp with sweat and sauce.
Battlefield Kitchen [6]
When you hit a creature with a melee weapon attack using a cooking implement, you can “Baste” it as part of the attack. The target takes an extra 2d6 fire damage and you or one ally within 30 feet regains hit points equal to half the fire damage dealt.
As a reaction when an ally within 30 feet is hit by an attack, you can shove a quick “Emergency Snack” into their hands. They gain temporary hit points equal to your barbarian level + Constitution modifier and advantage on their next attack roll before the end of their next turn. You can do this a number of times equal to your Constitution modifier per Feast Trance.
While in Feast Trance you have resistance to bludgeoning damage and your reach increases by 5 feet (tail + heavy gut controlling space)
Master Chef’s Spice [10]
Your decades of research, wild-magic spark, and divine connection to Festus have elevated every dish you make into something truly legendary. Your cooking is now faster, stronger, and far more impactful in combat.
You can now cook four short-rest and two long-rest recipes during a short or long rest instead of one.
All Cookbook recipes (Drinks, Snacks, Side Dishes, Full Meals) have their effects improved:
Drinks & Snacks: Buffs last for 2 hours instead of 1, and numerical bonuses increase by +1 (example: +2 becomes +3, 1d6 becomes 1d8, etc.). Temporary hit points granted are increased by your barbarian level.
Side Dishes: Can now be used four times per short rest instead of two. All saving throw advantages granted by Side Dishes also apply a d6 to attack rolls for the duration.
Full Meals: Any “advantage on checks” gains a d6 as well
When you serve any Cookbook recipe (including during combat via Taste Tests or Emergency Snacks), you can choose to infuse it with extra “Festus Fire.” The recipient gains +1d6 fire damage on their weapon attacks for the duration of the buff.
Eternal Simmer [14]
Eternal Simmer Aura (always active, 30-foot radius centered on you) While you are conscious, this passive aura constantly affects the battlefield:
Nourishing Warmth: At the start of each of your turns, every friendly creature within the aura (including yourself) gains temporary hit points equal to your Constitution modifier. These stack with any other temporary hit points but cannot exceed your barbarian level × 3 (does stack with the trance and increases the max by that much as well.
Searing Comfort: Any enemy that starts its turn in the aura or enters it for the first time on a turn takes 1d8 fire damage (radiant if they heal from fire instead). They also have -1d6 on attack rolls against any creature that has eaten one of your Cookbook recipes in the last 24 hours (the smell of your cooking distracts them).
Full-Belly Resolve: All allies within the aura have resistance to fire, poison, and acid damage. In addition, whenever an ally within the aura makes a saving throw, they can add your Constitution modifier as a bonus (minimum +1).
The Big Catfish’s Table: Any ally that ends their turn within 5 feet of you (leaning against your heavy gut, thick thigh, or tail) can use their reaction to take a quick “Table Bite.” They regain 2d8 + your Constitution modifier hit points and gain advantage on their next attack roll or saving throw. They can do this once per round, but you take dmg equal to what they rolled.
Feast Trance Synergy: While you are in a Feast Trance, the Eternal Simmer Aura expands to a 60-foot radius, the fire/radiant damage to enemies increases to 2d8, and all temporary hit points and healing from the aura are doubled. The air becomes thick with garlic, smoked paprika, and the deep, comforting scent of home; enemies choke on it while your party fights like a well-fed family that refuses to lose.
This aura is always on. No action required. No concentration. It is simply you; the slow-waddling, apron-clad, sweat-glistening river titan whose very existence says “everyone eats, everyone stays warm, and nobody gets left behind.”
