Base Class: Blood Hunter
The Order of the Lambent Rose was originally an order of paladins of "the Rack-Broken God", Ilmater. Dedicated to rooting out sources of suffering across the Sword Coast, some members of this order resorted to the mysterious, taboo art of hemocraft to aid their efforts. By inflicting pain upon themselves, it was believed, they would prevent that pain from befalling the innocent.
This automutilative power was heavily frowned upon by most, and as a result this group of practitioners of hemocraft were excommunicated from the church of Ilmater and were forgotten. Nowadays the Order is active as a group of hunters still dedicated to Ilmater in their own way. They wander the world in search of those who spread suffering —criminals, cults, and other cruel forces— and taking that suffering upon themselves so that others do not have to.
Rite of the Martyr
When you join this order at 3rd level, as part of your Crimson Rite feature you learn the Rite of the Martyr. When you activate the Rite of the Martyr, the extra damage dealt by your rite is radiant damage. Additionally, when this rite is active on your weapon, you gain the following features:
- Cruelty Retort. When you hit a creature that has dealt damage since the end of your last turn with a weapon for which the Rite of the Martyr is active, you roll an additional hemocraft die when determining the extra damage from the rite.
- Martyr's Intercession. While this rite is active, when a creature you can see within 30 feet takes damage, you can use your reaction to reduce that damage by one roll of your hemocraft die + your hemocraft modifier (minimum of 1). You take necrotic damage equal to the amount reduced. This damage can't be reduced in any way. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus. You regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
Enduring Vigor
Also at 3rd level, your time spent suffering for the sake of others has made you resilient. Being used to enduring pain, like the Martyred Father, your hit point maximum increases by two times your proficiency bonus. Additionally, you have advantage on Constitution saving throws against poison and disease.
Controlled Suffering
Starting at 7th level damage you take because of your Blood Hunter features can no longer reduce you to 0 hit points. In the case that you would fall to 0 hit points in this way, you drop to 1 hit point instead. In addition, when you use Martyr's Intercession and your current hit points are below half of your maximum hit points, you force the attacker to make a Wisdom saving throw. On a fail, it takes radiant damage equal to the damage you reduce.
Brand of Lingering Injury
At 11th level, Ilmater's never-closing wounds extend to the target of your Brand of Castigation. When the branded creature deals damage to a creature, it cannot regain hit points until the start of your next turn.
Blood Curse of the Rack-Broken
When you reach 15th level, a retaliating power manifests in you in the form of a blood curse. You gain the Blood Curse of the Rack-Broken for your Blood Maledict feature. This doesn’t count against your number of blood curses known.
Aura of the Lambent Rose
Upon reaching 18th level, suffering answers to you. While your Rite of the Martyr is active and you are conscious, allies within 10 feet of you are resistant to bludgeoning, piercing and slashing damage, and gain a bonus to Strength and Dexterity saving throws equal to your hemocraft modifier.
