College of Cosmetology

Bards of the College of Cosmetology understand that appearance is never merely superficial—it is a language, a weapon, and a kind of magic all its own. Where other bards rely on song or story, these artists wield brush, blade, and balm, channeling arcane power through acts of transformation. A carefully applied cosmetic can embolden the spirit, a masterful haircut can redefine identity, and a subtle touch of alchemy can turn the ordinary into the extraordinary.

Members of this college often train in salons, traveling troupes, or under eccentric mentors who blend performance with personal reinvention. With this insight, they shape not only how others are seen, but how they see themselves—bolstering allies with confidence and poise, while unraveling foes through doubt and distraction.

To a cosmetology bard transformation is the norm. Whether preparing a noble for court, disguising a fugitive, or stepping onto the stage themselves, they rewrite perception with every precise, practiced motion.

Level 3: Refreshing Look

You know how to make them shine with a striking new look. You learn the Thaumaturgy cantrip and the Disguise Self spell. They do not count against your cantrip/spell limit. If you already know these spells, you may learn another spell available to you instead. Your castings of these spells last up to 24 hours instead of the stated duration and may they may be casted upon others. Higher levels of this casting allows you to cast it upon one extra target for each spell level above the base level. Each of these may have a different or the same effect. You may use the castings of Thaumaturgy to also change the color of any other aspect of those whom you cast the spell upon. You may cast Disguise Self once upon yourself without expending a spell slot, regaining the use after a long rest.

In addition, you also gain a weapon mastery of your choice with a weapon in which you are proficient. This is the tool of the trade of which you are the most practiced, like scissors, straight blades, brushes, etc.

 

Level 3: Confident Appearance

Your clients' bold new look instills confidence. As a Reaction, you can expend a use of Bardic Inspiration, rolling a Bardic Inspiration die ({{scalevalue}}). You may do so when a target of one your of your ongoing Thaumaturgy or Disguise Self castings is attacked or fails a d20 test. They may add the total of your roll to their AC, saving throw, ability check, or attack roll. You may use this before or after learning the result.

Level 6: Deep Treatment

With a bit more practice in the field, you've expanded your magical alteration horizons. You always have Alter Self prepared. It does not count against your spell limit. If you already know this spell, you may learn another spell available to you instead. Your castings of this spell last up to 24 hours instead of the stated duration and may they may be casted upon others. Higher levels of this casting allows you to cast it upon one extra target for each spell level above 2nd. Each of these may have a different or the same effect. Targets of this spell also gain the affect of your Confident Appearance feature. You may cast this once upon yourself without expending a spell slot, regaining the use after a long rest.

Level 14: Otherworldly Transformations

Your cosmetic prowess reaches unbelievable heights. You learn Tasha's Otherworldly Guise, Investiture of Flame, Investiture of Ice, Investiture of Stone, Investiture of Wind, and Draconic Transformation. They do not count against your spell limit. If you already know these spells, you may learn another spell available to you instead. You may target other creatures with these spells. Targets of this spell also gain the affect of your Confident Appearance feature. You may cast any of these once upon yourself and once upon another target without expending a spell slot, regaining the free uses after a long rest.
