Monk
Base Class: Monk

Monks of the Way of Illumination are students of the vibrancy of life, among an otherwise ascetic pattern. Whether through personal study, or a service to a larger community, their routine has included a familiarity with books. Perhaps with the words, copying or writing themselves, but primarily in the imagination to bring them to life in accompanying illustrations. These monks have been drawn to the study, replication, and creation of illuminated manuscripts, and the work required for such. To breathe life into their works, in between times of focused isolation they may have traveled, or at the very least spent time working in various parts of their monastery or secluded location to study the animals, plants and flowers, and the way light filters through and falls on all things in the world. As they expand upon their studies, they have learned to pull their artistic work to the world around them beyond the page, summoning up distracting images, fantastical beasts, or new faces for crowds.

Painter's Skill

When you choose this tradition at level 3, your focus has begun to truly shine. You may gain proficiency with either painter's tools or calligrapher's tools, as well as a skill of your choice to reflect the area of study your character has focused on.

Additionally, you have learned the start of larger potential of your skills, channeling your brushstrokes occasionally beyond exceptional to life-like magic. As you level up, this power grows. At level 3, you can cast the level 1 spell Silent Image once a day.

Mark of the Artist

Your imagination is always creating, seeing paths ahead. At level 6, you have access to a pool of Inkblots, 2 + proficiency bonus (adding with level ups). When you hit a creature, you can choose to expend an Inkblot and mark your target with your art for 1 minute. Depending on the appearance you choose for this brief apparition of your art, the target must make a Wisdom Save and be your choice, as your visions are made manifest, of either Blinded or Charmed for 1 minute. At the end of each of their turns, they may repeat the save to end it.
You have also learned to cast the level 3 spell Hypnotic Pattern once per day, transfixing your enemies with the twisting patterns you create.

Animated Ink

At level 11, your temporary illustrations grow in power and gain more of your focus. When you hit creatures you have inflicted status on, including via Stunning Strike as your every movement is infused and dedicated to your art, you may add an additional roll of your martial arts die to the damage for all future attacks you make against them while the status applies.
You have also learned to cast the level 4 spell Conjure Woodland Beasts once per day, drawing the oddities in the world around you to come to your aid.

Illuminated Flourish

Once per long rest, you may unleash immense artistic potential in a sweeping creation around you. At level 17, as an action, you may spend one ki and one Inkblot to target all creatures adjacent to you with your animated ink, even if you have not attacked them, forcing them to make a Wisdom saving roll or be blinded/charmed (your choice per creature) for one minute.
You have also learned to cast the level 5 spell Seeming once per day, covering those around you in the painted visions you choose.
