Soul Shaping

Starting at 3rd level, your unique soul allows you to absorb magic within a creature’s attacks. When you would take damage by, or are the target of a creature’s ability, you can use your reaction to absorb this magic, rolling an Arcana check (DC 8 + the creature’s Challenge Rating). On a success, you gain the ability as a Spell which you are able to cast and memorize.

The spell uses your spellcasting modifier for Spell attack rolls or determining Saving Throws. The spell’s duration will also be similar to that of the creature if a duration is stated, otherwise it will last for 1 minute and can be cast as a bonus action, only effecting oneself.

The Challenge rating of the creature determines the level of the spell, and you cannot memorize spells for which you do not have spell slots.

You can memorize a number of spells gained this way when you finish a long rest equal to Half your Sorcerer level (Rounded down)

You also cannot learn Legendary Actions, Lair Actions, or spells cast by a creature with innate spellcasting with this feature.

Identifying Resonance

At 3rd level when you gain this origin, the abilities you have gained allow you to identify creatures using the same abilities. You gain advantage on checks involving creatures with abilities you currently have memorized.

Mimicry by Consumption

At 6th level, you have found blood has a new and strange taste with a pleasant pop and crackle on the tongue. By taking their flesh into your body, you can now learn their abilities.

You can now consume a piece of a creature in order to learn abilities through your Soul Shaping class feature. By expending 1 sorcery point, you can spend the next 10 minutes consuming and digesting a part of the creature to learn one of its abilities. Your DM may require a particular component be harvested from the creature which must be consumed to learn a particular creature ability, and some pieces may be harder to harvest than others depending on the strength of the ability.

Through this feature, you can now learn passive or defensive abilities such as Pact Tactics or Devil’s Sight. These spells all require 1 bonus action to cast with a duration of 10 minutes. These spells are concentration, and by casting them using a spell slot 2 higher than its current spell level, you can target 1 additional creature.

Counter Mimicry

With the repertoire of abilities you have gained, you have learned that these abilities can be broken down to basic magical reactions within the souls of creatures.

At 14th level, when a creature uses one of its abilities, you can expend 3 sorcery points to use Counterspell at 3rd level without expending a spell slot and even if you do not have it memorized. You can expend additional sorcery points to increase the level of Counterspell up to a maximum of 9th level by expending 1 sorcery point per spell level. The spell level of the ability is determined by the creatures Challenge Rating, laid out in the Absorbing Ability table. If you already have Counterspell memorized, you can expend sorcery points to increase the spell level instead of using a higher-level spell slot, but only against abilities of other creatures.

This cannot be used on Legendary Actions, Lair Actions, or Legendary Resistances

Once you have used this feature, you cannot use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Unbridled Soul Adaptation

At 18th level, even though there are thousands of abilities you still have yet to learn, your soul is getting used to it. You no longer need to expend sorcery points to use the Counter Mimicry class feature, and the DC for Arcana checks to learn new spells through your Soul Shaping class feature is now 4 + the creature’s Challenge Rating.

In addition, you can learn the Legendary Resistance ability, which is always active for you, and can be used once per long rest. You may also learn Legendary Actions, and you have a number of Legendary Actions equal to 1/4th your Sorcerer level (rounded down) per long rest.
