Base Class: Barbarian
The Path of the Ravenous are not ones to waste their food, that is well known, yet, It is unknown how the Path of the Ravenous spread. Some believe it to be akin to a cult of Lizardfolk, spreading their beliefs of "food" around. Others believe it to be Druids or Rangers who fell victim to their own hunger. Some believe them to be guardians of forests, sent down to kill poachers and hunters. Yet one thing is for certain. Those who smell of blood are easiest to track, so make an attempt to stay clean.
Ones who go down the Path of the Ravenous know nothing but hunger, and the taste of iron. Rather than using weapons to hunt, they prefer the weapons they started with, especially their teeth. By drinking the blood from their fallen and soon to be fallen enemies alike, they keep themselves in the fight. Their power is not absolute, however, as one who fails to eat falls to their own gluttony.
Hunger
Starting when you choose this path at 3rd level, you hunger instead of rage. For the duration of your hunger you are unable to use weapons, but you may use unarmed strikes dealing 1d8 + STR damage instead. You make a bite attack as a bonus action on each of your turns after this one. The bite does not have any bonuses to hit. Upon landing a bite, deal 1d6 piercing damage causing the target to bleed, dealing 1d4 piercing damage at the start of each of their turns. By biting an already bleeding target, heal yourself 1d8 health. You may not heal If your target has no blood, or is undead. If your rage ends without you healing via the bite action, take 1d8 damage (1d10 past level 10, 1d12 past level 14), and suffer a level of exhaustion.
You lose the resistances granted by rage regularly, but keep the advantage on strength checks. After landing a bite, gain an additional +1 to your strength modifier for your next strength check, or attack that requires strength.
Snack for the Road
Beginning when you take this subclass, you may restore one charge of your rage by drinking fresh blood. Alternatively, you may drink stored blood (such as in a vial, jar, or flask.) to heal yourself based on the CR of the creature the blood was taken from (Table below). You may use this feature twice per long rest. You may only benefit from this feature outside of combat. This feature does not activate upon drinking a willing creature's blood.
| CR | Healing done |
|---|---|
| 0-3 | 1d4+CR |
| 4-6 | 1d6+CR |
| 7-12 | 1d8+CR |
| 13-18 | 1d8+CR+6 |
| 19-24 | 1d10+CR+3 |
| 25-30 | 1d12+CR+2 |
Unsatisfied
Starting at 6th level, when you kill a creature using the Bite Attack bonus action, refresh your bonus action. You may only take the Bite Attack bonus action after refreshing your bonus action. There is no limit to how many times this can trigger per turn. Damage caused by bleed does not count for this feature.
You may now perform unarmed strikes with advantage while raging. While you have a target grappled, you may still perform unarmed strikes. If you perform a bite on a grappled target, you do not need to roll to hit the target.
Ravenous Instinct
Beginning at 10th level, you smell their fear. When landing a killing blow with a bite, allies of the killed target within a 15 foot radius must make a DC 13 Wisdom check, or become Frightened. While a target is frightened or bleeding, you are able to discern its location, even accounting for invisibility and hiding. Gain proficiency in survival, and advantage on survival checks to track something.
Growing Hunger
Beginning at 14th level, not counting the turn you start your hunger, every turn your hunger lasts for, add a +1 to hit and damage to your bite attack. You now heal when you land a bite, even if the target isn't bleeding. Increase the bleed damage of your bite to 1d6, and the damage from your bite to 1d10. If you bite a bleeding target, heal double the amount of damage you do to the target. You no longer stay in rage unless you attempt to hit a creature with your bite each turn.
