Sorcerer
Base Class: Sorcerer

Born amidst the most intense storms, these sorcerers are imbued with the powers of thunder and lightning. The power of the Thunder Mage cannot be passed down between bloodlines, although the magical power still remains. Those lucky enough to have been born under the extreme conditions and be gifted with this power often find themselves drawn to adventures and excitement, rather than studying magic in seclusion.

Electrified Soul

At 1st level, you learn the cantrip Thunderclap, and the spell Thunderwave. At 2nd level you learn the spell Shatter, and at 3rd level you learn the spell Thunderstep. These spells don't count against your number of sorcerer spells or cantrips known.

Advanced Techniques

Once per turn when you cast a spell that would deal lightning or thunder damage, you may add one of the following effects:

  • You may choose a number of those creatures up to your Charisma modifier (minimum of one creature). A chosen creature automatically succeeds on its saving throw against the spell.
  • If the range of the spell is 5 feet or greater, you may increase the range by up to 10 feet (but not past double the base range).
  • If the area of the spell if 5 feet or greater, you may increase the area by up to 10 feet (but not past double the base area).
  • The damage of the spell is increased by half of your charisma modifier, rounded up (minimum of one).

At level 6, you may choose two bonus effects, at level 14 you may choose 3 bonus effects, and at level 18 you may choose 4 bonus effects. You cannot choose the same bonus more than once per spell.

Crackling Aura

Starting at 6th level, you begin to surround yourself with an aura of thunder and lightning that grants you the following bonuses:

  • your thunder and lightning spells release deafening noise. Whenever you cast a spell of 1st level or higher, you may use a bonus action to cast Thunderclap. When you do, choose any number of creatures you can see within range. If those creatures fail their saving throw, they are knocked prone.
  • You have disadvantage on stealth checks if there is another creature within 10 feet of you that is not your ally.
  • You gain resistance to thunder and lightning damage. At 14th level, this becomes complete immunity.
  • Your thunder and lightning cantrips deal half damage on a successful saving throw.

Thunderous Rebuke

Starting at 14th level, whenever you are hit by a melee attack, you may hit the attacker with a burst of thunderous sound that can be heard up to 100 feet away. The attacker must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the attacker takes thunder damage equal to your sorcerer level, and is stunned until the end of it's next turn. On a successful save, the creature takes half damage, and has disadvantage on attack rolls until the end of it's next turn.

In addition, whenever you are hit by a spell that deals lightning or thunder damage, you may choose one of the following:

  • Release a burst of lightning at the attacker, who must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, the target takes lightning damage equal to your sorcerer level, and is stunned until the end of your next turn. On a successful save, the target takes half damage.
  • Absorb the power of the spell, restoring a spell slot with an equal or lesser value than the level of the spell that triggered this.

Stormsurge

Starting at 18th level, you may forfeit your movement to cast Thunderstep without spending any spell slots (you may still spend additional slots to increase the damage). You ignore the range of Thunderstep, and instead may teleport to a location that you could have moved to normally. Additionally, you may cast thunder and lightning spells of level 3 or less that would normally require an action as a bonus action instead.
