Base Class: Sorcerer
Your innate magic descends from ancient hag rites, forbidden bargains, and the eerie cursefires that burn where the veil between worlds grows thin. These unnatural flames are living maledictions — Witchlight bound to spite, memory, and fate itself. Your magic clings to creatures like a curse upon the soul, burning long after ordinary flames would fade.
Some Witchfire Sorcerers inherit their power through bloodlines touched by hags generations ago. Others are survivors of dark rituals, children stolen beneath moonless skies, or mortals marked by bargains they never knowingly made.
Level 3: Witchfire Spells
When you reach a Sorcerer level specified in the Witchfire Spells table, you thereafter always have the listed spells prepared.
| Sorcerer Level | Spells |
|---|---|
| 3 | Hex, Burning Hands, Hellish Rebuke, Scorching Ray |
| 5 | Bestow Curse, Fireball |
| 7 | Phantasmal Killer, Wall of Fire |
| 9 | Geas, Immolation |
Level 3: Baleflame Curse
When you deal Fire damage to a creature, you can curse it with witchfire for 1 minute.
While cursed:
- The creature sheds dim green light in a 10-foot radius.
- The creature cannot benefit from being Invisible.
- The first time on each turn that the creature takes damage from one of your spells, it takes extra Fire damage equal to your Charisma modifier.
You can affect only one creature with this feature at a time. The curse ends early if:
- You become Incapacitated.
- You curse another creature.
Level 6: Cinders of Misfortune
Your witchfire twists fate around afflicted creatures.
When a creature cursed by your Baleflame Curse:
- misses with an attack roll, or
- fails a saving throw,
you can use your Reaction to trigger one of the following effects:
- The creature has disadvantage on the next attack roll it makes before the end of its next turn.
- The creature can't take Reactions until the end of its next turn.
- The creature takes 2d6 Fire or Psychic damage.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to half your Sorcerer level (rounded down), and regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.
Level 14: Burning Hex
Your curses become deeply entwined with your fire magic.
You gain the following benefits:
- You gain Resistance to Fire damage.
- Your spells ignore Resistance to Fire damage.
- When a creature cursed by your Baleflame Curse fails a saving throw against one of your spells, witchfire lingers around it until the end of your next turn. While wreathed in this flame, the creature has disadvantage on the next saving throw it makes against one of your spells.
Level 18: Crown of the Witch Pyre
As a Bonus Action, you can manifest the Crown of the Witch Pyre for 1 minute.
For the duration, you gain the following benefits:
Witchflight. You gain a flying speed of 60 feet and can hover.
Hexflame Mastery. When you cast a spell of 1st level or higher that deals Fire damage, you can apply your Baleflame Curse to one creature affected by the spell without ending the curse on a previous creature.
In addition, whenever you apply Baleflame Curse during Crown of the Witch Pyre, the duration of all active applications of your Baleflame Curse resets to 1 minute.
Soul-Burning Magic. Once per turn, when a creature cursed by your Baleflame Curse fails a saving throw against one of your spells, you regain Sorcery Points equal to half the spell’s level (rounded down, minimum 1).
When the duration of Crown of the Witch Pyre ends, each creature affected by your Baleflame Curse takes Fire damage equal to 4d6 + your Charisma modifier. This does not take effect if you become incapacitated. Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a Long Rest, unless you spend 6 Sorcery Points to use it again.
