Bard
Base Class: Bard

Bards of the College of Time have learned to pluck the very strings of time itself.

This subclass is a Quixotic-Dragon production.

In order to help us improve it, please take a moment to rate it and comment your answers to the following questions:

  • Is this subclass unique enough to be justified as its own thing?
  • Is there anything about this subclass that doesn't fit the balance established by Wizards of the Coast?
    • If so, what?
  • Is there any terminology or phrasing that made this subclass confusing or difficult to understand?
  • Are there any changes you would make in order to make the subclass more fun or easier to play?
  • Are there any other notes or improvements you would make to this class that were not mentioned in these questions?

Thank you for taking part in our creative process! We hope to have a refined version available soon!

Hour Selection

Starting at 3rd level, you can make a performance check to move forward in time to the time of day of your choice. While travelling to this time, your speed becomes 0 but you cannot be harmed or manipulated as if made of indestructible stone. However, your equipment can be handled and even taken, and your body can be relocated. Due to the likelihood of shenanigans with their belongings and body, most bards hide or go somewhere safe and secluded before using this ability. The music you play to use this ability is audible to others, but it is generally a low hum because it’s only a few notes stretched throughout your waiting period.

Hasty Rest

Starting at 3rd level, you can make a performance check to make rests take half as long. If you play for at least a minute, all creatures within 60 feet of you gain the benefits of a short or long rest in half the time they normally would.

Mysterious Benefactor

Starting at 3rd level, you gain the help of a mysterious person who seems to know just a bit too much about you. When you are around this person, you get the strangest feeling that they may know you somehow. This benefactor is played by the DM and may help you in different ways depending on the campaign. Among other things, your benefactor can:

  • Intervene on your behalf with a shopkeeper, gaining you a discount on an item.
  • Gift you an item that you may need, though if they do this it will usually be a mundane one.
  • Appear at just the right time to give you helpful information.
  • Grant you advantage on a skill check through advice and encouragement.

While your benefactor can intervene more than once per day, they generally won't.

Time Manipulator

Starting at 6th level, The Haste and Slow spells are added to you spell list, and you gain the following benefits when you cast one of these spells.

When you cast Haste, you can expend a use of Bardic Inspiration to select a number of targets equal to your Charisma modifier.

When you cast Slow, you can add a bardic inspiration die to the DC of the Wisdom save.

Song of Time

Starting at 14th level, Once per long rest you may travel back in time a number of rounds up to your Charisma modifier. During the first round after using this ability, you get advantage on all attack rolls, ability checks, and saving throws, as well as a +2 to AC.

Alternatively, you can use this ability to travel a number of years into the past or future equal to your Charisma modifier + your proficiency bonus, but doing so removes your character from the game (and may make your character an NPC) and you must make a new character. To determine whether you go to the past or future, roll 1d20. 10 or lower is past, 11 or higher is future. If you end up in the past, you become your own Mysterious Benefactor.
