Pugilist
Base Class: Pugilist

Hello, this is my first time submitting a homebrew creation to the community, this is my take on One Punch Man as a subclass.

I am open to suggestions on how I might improve this, and for recommendations on my possible future line of One-Piece Devil Fruit power subclasses.

This subclass is meant primarily as a joke and is not balanced for actual play.

I hope you enjoy.

Some pugilists seek great power through climbing mountains, facing stronger and stronger foes, uncovering ancient techniques, and devoting their lives to perfecting the art of combat.

You did not.

While your peers mastered secret forbidden fighting styles and learned how to shout, "THIS ISN'T EVEN MY FINAL FORM!" at increasingly alarming volumes, you followed a simple routine:

One hundred push-ups.

One hundred sit-ups.

One hundred squats.

And a ten-kilometer run.

Every day.

No exceptions.

Somehow, this worked.

Your strength has grown beyond all reasonable explanation. Battles that once seemed exciting have become disappointingly routine, and foes that inspire terror in others rarely survive long enough to finish their introductions.

You continue your journey not in pursuit of greater power, but in pursuit of something far more difficult to find:

A fight that lasts longer than a few seconds.

Level 3: In Just One Punch

You have grown so bored with combat that you discovered a method that uses it to prolong your fights- But if the enemy is weak this tactic gets boring fast.

Whenever you hit a creature with an unarmed strike, you deal Boredom points instead of normal damage.

Boredom points are tracked separately from a creature's hit points as you dodge, sidestep and evade, frustrating them and boring you.

When a creature's Boredom points plus the damage it has already taken equals or exceeds its hit point maximum, you finally get bored with this and punch them.

The creature takes bludgeoning damage equal to the amount of Boredom accumulated as if it came from a single attack, which should be enough to reduce it to 0HP.

If a creature is killed by this attack its body is destroyed in an absurdly over-the-top fashion.

Example:

  • Dragon: 30 HP
  • Wizard casts Fireball, deals 20 damage
  • Dragon now has 10 HP remaining
  • Pugilist has already accumulated 5 Boredom
  • Pugilist uses unarmed strike increasing Boredom to 10
  • Boredom now equals the number of the Dragon's remaining hit points
  • Dragon takes accumulated bludgeoning damage instantly
  • Dragon explodes

Level 3: Not Worth My Time

When you would die during combat, whether by failing death saving throws or by any other means, you may decide that this battle simply is not worth the effort.

You immediately become immune to all damage, conditions, and effects. You then depart the scene by whatever means seems most dramatically appropriate. This departure ignores restraints, barriers, magical effects, dimensional boundaries, and common sense, you simply vanish.

Once you leave, roll 1d4.

During this time, you are gone, you cannot be contacted, summoned, located, or meaningfully interacted with, as you are occupied staring into a rain puddle, sitting on a rooftop at sunset, or otherwise lamenting how becoming the strongest person alive has made combat unbearably boring.

At the end of this time, you return at full hit points.

Level 6: Casual Sidestep

You can move impossibly little to avoid impossibly large attacks.

When a creature you can see hits you with an attack, you may use your reaction to move 5 feet.

If this movement places you outside the attack's reach or area, the attack misses.

Level 11: The Mosquito

You gain immunity to being charmed, frightened, or surprised.

However, Tiny creatures have advantage on attack rolls against you.

Level 17: Normal Punch

Once per long rest, when you hit a creature with an unarmed strike, all Boredom affecting that creature becomes equal to its hit point maximum.

Then resolve the effects of Boredom damage normally.
