Level 3: Martial Archetype
The Aldori Swordlords arose when famed swordsman Baron Sirian Aldori agreed to train a select group of pupils in his unique dueling techniques. The Aldori Swordlords have ruled the nation of Rostland for generations, each of them as prickly and impulsive as the order’s founder. Though they are considered some of the finest swordfighters in the realms, they are also obsessed with personal standing and honor.
The Swordlords are known for their mastery of the Aldori Dueling Sword, a unique weapon that complements their distinctive fighting style. An Aldori Swordlord is a swordfighter practiced in the art of dueling who has been taught in the ways of the Aldori school of swordplay established by Baron Aldori. This style is perfect for duels or flashy combat, but can also be used for practical fighting as well. Most of the Swordlords are prideful and determined to be the best, leading them to challenge themselves at every opportunity.
Those who wish to become a Swordlord must take the last name of Aldori, swear to the “Aldori Swordpact”, and demonstrate skill at swordplay by winning a duel using only a sword in the presence of an Aldori Swordlord or experienced exile.
Aldori Fighting Style
The Aldori Swordlords practice a unique style of fighting that allows them to adapt to any enemy.
While using a versatile weapon and wielding it in one hand and wielding nothing in your other hand, your AC increases by +1.
When wielding a versatile weapon with two hands, you gain the ability to reroll attack rolls that land on a 1 or 2 and must use the new roll, even if the new roll is a 1 or a 2. You can only switch your style once per turn.
Dueling Sword Proficiency
When you choose this archetype at 3rd level. You gain proficiency with Aldori Dueling Swords, allowing you to add your proficiency bonus to attacks made with Aldori Dueling Swords.
Aldori Dueling Sword
Weight: 2 Price: 30 gp Damage: 1d8 Slashing
Martial Melee Weapon
The Aldori dueling sword is a slim, single-bladed dueling sword with a slight curve and a sharp, reinforced point. It is mainly used by the Aldori Swordlords of Restov.
Special: The Aldori dueling sword works best when wielded with one or two hands. When wielded in one hand nothing must must be wielded in the other or the wielder will incur a penalty. If the other hand is equipped with something (e.g. a shield), the damage of the Aldori dueling sword becomes 1d6 slashing instead of 1d8.
Properties: Finesse, Versatile(1d10), Special
Level 3: Intimidating Duelist
Starting at 3rd level, your intense demeanor and quick reflexes make you an intimidating figure. You gain proficiency in Intimidation.
If you are already proficient in Intimidation, you can choose a different skill instead.
Level 7: Shatter Confidence
At 7th level, you can make such a dazzling display of swordplay it becomes an intimidating sight for any foe. When you hit an enemy, using the Aldori Dueling Sword, you can use your Bonus Action to make a Dexterity(Intimidation) check against the enemy’s Wisdom saving throw. If the check succeeds, the enemy will be frightened of you until the start of your next turn and is forced to spend its action on its next turn to move as far away from you as possible or until it can no longer see you. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus. You regain all spent uses on a long rest.
Level 10: Fit to Rule
Swordlords may be known for their combat prowess, but they are also adept, if hotheaded, rulers.
When you reach 10th level, you gain proficiency in Insight and your proficiency bonus for Intimidation and Insight skill checks is doubled.
If you are already proficient in Insight you can choose a different skill instead. You still receive this benefit regardless of the skill proficiency you gain from this feature.
Level 15: Dextrous Duelist
Starting at 15th level, you learn to help yourself and others exit combat with grace using your regular attacks. When you make a melee attack against one or multiple enemies within reach, using the Aldori Dueling Sword, every enemy successfully hit by an attack from you has, until the start of your next turn, disadvantage on attacks of opportunity against you and your allies that attempt to leave the enemy’s reach.
Level 18: Display of Power
At 18th level, you learn to use your intimidating figure in a more effective way, allowing you to perceive weak spots of frightened enemies and exploit them for extra damage. When you hit an opportunity attack against a creature frightened by your Shatter Confidence, it becomes a critical hit. This ability works in tandem with Defensive Strike.
