Base Class: Sorcerer
Release the Roiling Flame
Your innate magic flows from the eternal flame of a phoenix, an embodiment of pure fire, equal parts majestic and destructive. Perhaps you inherited the power through an ancient and noble bloodline. Maybe you were bestowed a gift after a miraculous encounter. You could be the remnants of a powerful phoenix's revival. Or suffused with the power of the elemental plane of fire.
Those with the powers of a phoenix rarely live quiet lives. The untamed fire within them cannot be contained without smothering it completely, a difficult task for beings so empowered with magical life. Many become wanderers out of necessity, their presence leaving scorched earth and unforgettable stories in equal measure. Some are feared for the destruction their magic can unleash, while others are revered as awe-inspiring figures of myth. Wherever they travel, a phoenix sorcerer is seldom forgotten.
Level 3: Kindled Soul
When you spend at least 1 Sorcery Point as part of a Magic action or a Bonus Action on your turn, you can chose to unleash your inner fire to manifest one of the following magical effects of your choice. You can do so only once per turn.
When you do so, you take 1d4 Fire damage. While Innate Sorcery is active, you instead take 2d4 Fire damage and the following effects are enhanced. This damage can't be reduced in any way, does not require a concentration check, and ignores Temporary Hit Points.
Wrathful Inferno.
One target damaged by the triggering spell or magical effect takes an extra 1d6 Fire damage. While Innate Sorcery is active, the extra damage increases to 2d6 Fire damage.
Rising Embers.
You can move up to 30 feet without provoking opportunity attacks. While Innate Sorcery is active, you are flying during this movement. After this movement ends, you fall if you are still aloft unless you can stop the fall.
Merciful Ash.
Choose one creature you can see within 30 feet of yourself. That creature regains 1d6 Hit Points. While Innate Sorcery is active, the creature instead regains 2d6 Hit points.
Level 3: Phoenix Spells
When you reach a Sorcerer level specified in the Phoenix Spells table, you thereafter always have the listed spells prepared.
| Sorcerer Level | Spells |
|---|---|
| 3 | Aid, Burning Hands, Cure Wounds, Produce Flame, Scorching Ray |
| 5 | Fireball, Revivify |
| 7 | Death Ward, Wall of Fire |
| 9 | Immolation, Mass Cure Wounds |
Level 6: Undying Flame
When you are reduced to 0 Hit Points but not killed outright, you can drop to 1 Hit Point instead. Each creature of your choice within 10 feet of you take Fire damage equal to half your Sorcerer level + your Charisma modifier (minimum of one).
If you use this feature while Innate Sorcery is active, you can choose creatures within 20 feet and this feature instead deals Fire damage equal to your Sorcerer level + double your Charisma modifier (minimum of one). Innate Sorcery immediately ends when this feature is used.
Once you use this feature, you can’t do so again until you finish a Long Rest.
Level 14: Blazing Soul
Your Kindled Soul burns brighter. The Fire damage you take from Kindled Soul increases to 1d8 damage, or 2d8 while Innate Sorcery is active. The benefits of Kindled Soul similarly improve.
Wrathful Inferno.
The damage of Wrathful Inferno increases to 1d10, or 2d10 while Innate Sorcery is active.
Rising Embers.
The movement of Rising Embers increases to 60 feet.
Merciful Ash.
The healing of Merciful Ash increases to 60 feet, and the healing increases to 1d8, or 2d8 while Sorcery Incarnate is active.
Level 18: Ascendant Soul
When you use Innate Sorcery, you can unbind your soul and rise as an ascendant Phoenix, gaining the following benefits while this use of Innate Sorcery is active. Once you use this feature to alter Innate Sorcery, you can't use it again until you finish a Long Rest unless you spend 5 Sorcery Points (no action required) to restore your use of it.
Unbound Inferno.
You gain the enhanced benefits of Wrathful Inferno, Rising Embers, and Merciful Ash each time you use Kindled Soul, rather than choosing one.
Nourishing Fire.
The damage you take from Kindled Soul increases to 3d8 Fire damage. Whenever you take this damage, you gain a number of Temporary Hit Points equal to half the damage taken, rounded down.
Soaring Embers.
Until Innate Sorcery ends, you have a Fly Speed equal to your Speed.
Blinding Conflagration.
You shed Bright Light in a 60-foot radius and Dim Light for an additional 60 feet.
