Gunslinger
Base Class: Gunslinger

Every duel is a wager, every battlefield a casino, and every bullet another chip pushed across the table. Fortune's Hand gunslingers thrive when the stakes are highest, trusting in skill just as much as luck. Their shots strike harder than expected, rescue allies from the brink of defeat, and create opportunities where none seemed possible.

To them, victory isn't left to chance. It's earned by knowing exactly when to risk everything.

Level 3: Fortune's Favor

When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you learn to infuse your shots with supernatural fortune.

Whenever you hit a creature with a firearm attack, you may expend one Risk Die to trigger one of the following effects.

Roll your Risk Die and choose one option:

♠ Deadeye

The target takes additional damage equal to the number rolled on your Risk Die.

"The safest bet is the shot that ends the game."

♥ Heart's Boon

Choose yourself or one creature you can see within 30 feet.

That creature regains hit points equal to:

Risk Die roll + your Dexterity modifier

"Luck is worth more when it is shared."

♦ Lucky Break

Choose one creature you can see within 30 feet.

That creature gains a bonus equal to your Risk Die roll on the next:

  • attack roll
  • saving throw
  • ability check

it makes before the start of your next turn.

"Sometimes victory comes down to one perfect moment."

♣ Split the Pot

Divide the number rolled on your Risk Die between two effects:

  • The target takes extra damage equal to part of the roll.
  • You or one creature within 30 feet regains hit points equal to the remaining amount.

You decide the split after rolling.

"The best gamblers know when to share their winnings."

Level 7: Raise the Stakes

Raise the Stakes

At 7th level, you have learned how to push your luck further.

When you use Fortune's Favor, you may expend one additional Risk Die to apply a second effect from Fortune's Favor.

You roll both Risk Dice separately.

For example:

  • Use Deadeye + Heart's Boon to damage an enemy and heal an ally.
  • Use Lucky Break + Deadeye to empower yourself and hit harder.
  • Use Heart's Boon + Split the Pot to save an ally while still dealing damage.

You can only use this feature once per turn.

Level 10: Winning Streak

At 10th level, fortune begins to follow you.

Whenever you:

  • score a critical hit with a firearm attack, or
  • reduce a hostile creature to 0 hit points with a firearm attack,

you gain one of the following benefits:

Cash Out

Regain one expended Risk Die.

Second Chance

You or a creature within 30 feet regains hit points equal to your firearm's damage die.

Momentum

One creature of your choice within 30 feet can move up to half its speed without provoking opportunity attacks.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest.

Level 14: Loaded Chamber

14th-level Fortune's Hand feature

Your skill with fortune allows you to prepare a single shot that is always ready when you need it.

When you finish a short or long rest, choose one option from your Fortune's Favor feature. This option becomes your Loaded Chamber.

Once per turn, when you hit a creature with a firearm attack, you can apply your Loaded Chamber effect without expending a Risk Die.

When you choose your Loaded Chamber, roll a d4. The number rolled becomes your Lucky Number.

(if you roll a 1 on the lucky number die you must roll again until you get 2-4)

Whenever you use Fortune's Favor and expend a Risk Die, roll a d4 before rolling your Risk Die:

  • Lucky Shot: If the result matches your Lucky Number, the Fortune's Favor effect gains an additional benefit.
  • Misfire: If the result is a 1, your Loaded Chamber cannot be used on your next turn.

For the bonus effects, your earlier ideas actually fit this system better:

Deadeye

Jackpot: Roll an additional die equal to your Risk Die size and add it as bonus damage.

Heart's Boon

Jackpot: The healing increases by adding your proficiency bonus and doubling your Dexterity modifier.

Lucky Break

Jackpot: The creature also gains the ability to move up to half its speed without provoking opportunity attacks.

Split the Pot

Jackpot: Add your proficiency bonus to the amount you can divide between damage and healing.

Normal Outcome: The effect works normally.
