Monk
Base Class: Monk

Monks of the Way of the Threefold Path are the most versatile across all martial arts combat, whether armed or unarmed. They learn both how to strike their enemies as well as protect their allies but only one at a time.

Level 3: Threefold Discipline

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you learn to adapt your fighting style by following one of three disciplines: the Path of the Spear, the Path of the Tempest, or the Path of the Shield. At the end of a long rest, you choose one of these paths. Your chosen path remains active until you choose a different one at the end of a long rest.

Path of the Spear

The Path of the Spear focuses on precision and overwhelming force against a single foe. When you follow this path, you gain the following benefits:

• You gain a +1 bonus to attack rolls made with your Unarmed Strikes and Monk weapons.

• Once on each of your turns, when you hit a creature with an Unarmed Strike or Monk weapon, you can deal extra damage equal to one roll of your Martial Arts die.

Path of the Tempest

The Path of the Tempest teaches that a warrior should never be limited to a single opponent. Through constant movement and a flurry of strikes, you overwhelm groups of enemies and control the battlefield.

• Once on each of your turns, when you hit a creature with an Unarmed Strike, you can make one additional Unarmed Strike against a different creature within 5 feet of the original target.

• This additional attack does not add your ability modifier to its damage unless you spend 1 Focus Point when making the attack.

Path of the Shield

The Path of the Shield teaches that true strength comes from protecting others. These monks use their bodies as a barrier between their allies and their enemies.

• While you are not wearing armor or wielding a shield, your Armor Class increases by 1.

• When a creature within 5 feet of you makes an attack roll against a creature other than you, you can use your Reaction to impose Disadvantage on that attack roll.

Level 6: Mastered Discipline

At 6th level, your dedication to your chosen discipline allows you to further embody its principles. Your chosen path grants you additional benefits.

The Path of the Spear teaches that a single perfect strike can decide the outcome of any battle. Through focus and precision, you learn to exploit openings in your enemies' defenses.

Your strikes are precise enough to bypass your enemies' defenses.

  • Once per turn when you hit a creature with an Unarmed Strike or Monk weapon, you can treat the attack's damage as if you had rolled the maximum value of your Martial Arts die.
  • You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.
  • In addition, once per turn when you hit a creature that has no other creatures within 5 feet of it, you deal extra damage equal to one roll of your Martial Arts die.

The Path of the Tempest teaches that a warrior should never be limited to a single opponent. By moving like a storm across the battlefield, you overwhelm groups of enemies through speed and relentless attacks.

  • When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can move up to 10 feet between attacks without provoking Opportunity Attacks from creatures you attack during that turn.
  • In addition, once per turn when you hit a creature with an Unarmed Strike, you can deal damage equal to one roll of your Martial Arts die to a different creature within 5 feet of the target.

The Path of the Shield teaches that true strength comes from protecting others. You have learned to turn your body into a barrier that shields your allies from harm.

  • Once per short rest, you can choose one creature within 10 feet of you. Until the start of your next turn, that creature gains the benefits of the Dodge action.
  • In addition, when a creature within 5 feet of you takes damage, you can use your Reaction to reduce that damage by an amount equal to one roll of your Martial Arts die + your Wisdom modifier.

Level 11: Perfected Discipline

At 11th level, your mastery of your chosen discipline allows you to embody its principles more completely. Your chosen path grants you a new ability.

The Path of the Spear teaches that every battle has a decisive moment. You have learned to focus your entire being on a single opponent.

As a Bonus Action, you can choose one creature you can see within 60 feet of you and mark it for 1 minute. While a creature is marked, you gain the following benefits:

  • You have Advantage on the first attack roll you make against the marked creature on each of your turns.
  • Once per turn when you hit the marked creature with an Unarmed Strike or Monk weapon, you deal additional damage equal to one roll of your Martial Arts die.
  • The marked creature cannot benefit from being Invisible against you.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of once), and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.

The Path of the Shield teaches that a warrior's greatest victory is preventing defeat.

When a creature you can see within 30 feet of you takes damage, you can use your Reaction to move up to your speed toward that creature without provoking Opportunity Attacks.

If you end this movement within 5 feet of the creature, you reduce the damage it takes by an amount equal to your Monk level + your Wisdom modifier.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of once), and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.

Level 17: Perfect Harmony

At 17th level, you have mastered the Threefold Path and learned to unite its three disciplines into a single perfect form.

Once per Long Rest, as a Bonus Action, you can enter a state of Perfect Harmony for 10 minutes. During this time, you gain the benefits of the Path of the Spear, the Path of the Tempest, and the Path of the Shield simultaneously.

When this effect ends, your Focus Points are reduced to 0, and you cannot regain Focus Points until you finish a Short or Long Rest.
