Base Class: Fighter
"You may brood over curiosities regarding the Will of the Prescript, yet inquiry bears no weight in its execution. What is absolute can only be obeyed."
Following the Orders of Prescripts, small pieces of paper that carry instructions and appear either inexplicably, or are delivered by Messengers of The Index, you follow the Will of the City.
Will of the City - Level 3
"To: [_____]"
"Don the Blindfold of a Proselyte; Sever the Spine of 3 Nest Residents before 2 months pass"
Prescript on a Paper Slip
When you take this subclass, you start to receive Prescripts delivered on Paper Slips. Prescripts can appear out of nowhere, like in a hole in the Lining of a jacket, in a sandwich, or just lying on the ground somewhere, they can also be delivered by Messengers of The Index directly. The orders of Prescripts are determined by the DM, and their instructions can vary wildly. It is recommended that DMs use the Prescript's orders to push you and the party in the right direction of whatever quest you're on.
When rolling initiative, a hostile creature the DM Chooses becomes the 'Prescript's Target'. You have advantage on any ability check made to track or locate the Prescript’s Target, and when you hit your Prescript’s Target with a weapon attack, the attack deals an extra 1d6 damage.
When the Prescript’s Target is reduced to 0 hit points or is no longer part of the encounter, the DM chooses a new creature to become the Prescript’s Target. If multiple Subclasses apply Prescript's Target, only one creature becomes the Prescript's Target.
Grace of the Prescripts
When you hit the Prescript's Target with a Weapon Attack, you gain 1 stack of 'Grace of the Prescript' (once per turn.)
For every 3 stacks of Grace of the Prescript you have, you deal 1 additional damage with all attacks. Grace of the Prescript has a maximum stack of 9.
You lose all stacks of Grace of the Prescript when combat ends.
At the start of each of your turns, roll a d4. You gain a Prescript depending on the number rolled:
1. "Cleave the Spine; Sever the Flesh". Hit a Creature with an attack that deals Slashing damage.
2. "Penetrate the Arm; Impale the Pelvis". Hit a Creature with an attack that deals Piercing damage.
3. "Cave in the Back of the Skull; Crush the Ribs in their Entirety". Hit a Creature with an attack that deals Bludgeoning damage.
4. "Strike a target off-balance; Allow Gravity to Assist an Execution". Knock a Creature prone.
When fulfilling a Prescript against the Prescript's Target, you gain 3 Grace of the Prescripts instead of 1.
To Where the Prescript Points
At the start of each of your turns, roll a d4. Attacks made with the Damage Type corresponding to the number rolled gains a +1 to hit and damage:
1. Slashing.
2. Piercing.
3. Bludgeoning.
4. Reroll.
When using a weapon that deals Bludgeoning, Piercing, or Slashing, you can change the damage type to Bludgeoning, Piercing, or Slashing damage.
For example, you can convert a Longsword's Slashing damage into Piercing damage, or a Spear's piercing damage into bludgeoning damage.
As the Prescript Demands - Level 7
"To: [_____]"
"Cleave a Beast's Spine into 4 Equal Segments before 1 month passes"
Locked Potential
You gain benefits based on your current number of Grace of the Prescript stacks:
3-5 stacks: Unlock I - You gain a +1 bonus to attack rolls, and your movement speed increases by 10 feet.
6-8 stacks: Unlock II - You gain a +2 bonus to attack rolls, and your Armor Class increases by 1.
9 stacks: Unlock III - You gain a +3 bonus to attack rolls.
The attack bonuses from Unlock replace the previous Unlock Stage's attack bonus.
You gain and lose the benefits of an Unlock whenever your number of Grace of the Prescript stacks enters or leaves its listed range.
If gaining Grace would cause you to exceed 9 stacks, you regain 2 Hit Points for each stack gained beyond 9. Your Grace of the Prescript remains capped at 9.
Prescript-Granted, Prescript-Woven
For every 3 Grace of the Prescripts stacks you have, you gain temporary hit points equal to half your proficiency bonus at the start of each of your turns.
Unerringly, as the Prescript Demands - Level 10
"To: [_____]"
"Follow the path of an acting Proxy; carry out the Prescript they received"
Blade Unlocked; Prescript Ordered Execution
Choose one of the following special actions to gain access to. A Special Action can only be activated while at Unlock III and having 9 Grace of the Prescript stacks. Using a Special action granted by this feature consumes 3 Grace of the Prescript stacks. Reducing your Grace of the Prescript stacks this way does not decrease your Unlock stage:
1. Castigation. Roll a single damage die that gets multiplied.
2. Decapitation. Drag in a creature and attempt a powerful attack.
3. Eradication. Drag multiple creatures towards you and attack each of them.
Castigation
"Those who wish to live a life through meaning given by a higher power, should be prepared to accept death as one such meaning."
When you use this special action, make an attack roll against a creature as normal, but instead of rolling the damage dice, roll a single d8. The base damage of the attack equals 7 times the result of the d8, after which damage bonuses are applied as normal.
At level 18, you roll 2d8 instead of 1d8.
Decapitation
"I cannot be led astray by what happened before my eyes."
When you use this special action, make a ranged weapon attack against a creature within 30 feet of you, make a ranged attack using your proficiency bonus and the ability modifier you would normally use for a weapon attack. On a hit, the creature is dragged within 5 feet of you, and you make one melee weapon attack against that creature as a part of that same action. The melee attack automatically hits and is a critical hit. For the purposes of effects that trigger when you roll a natural 20 on an attack roll, such as a Vorpal Sword, treat the attack as though you had rolled a natural 20
Eradication
"It won’t take us to the wrong way still"
When you use this special action, make one ranged attack against each of up to three creatures using your proficiency bonus and the ability modifier you would normally use for a weapon attack. On a hit, the creature is moved within 5 feet of you. After all creatures have been moved, you make two melee weapon attacks against each creature you dragged in. These attacks must be made against the creatures in range of you.
Somber Procuration - Level 15
"To: [_____]"
"Enter A Duel contract with a Cinq fixer; bind them with your Will and cleave through their neck"
Binding Chains
Once per turn, as an attack replacement, you may make a ranged attack against 1 creature within 30 feet of you using your proficiency bonus and the ability modifier you would normally use for a weapon attack. On a hit, the creature is restrained until the start of your next turn, you may also drag the creature to an unoccupied space within 5 feet of you.
Prescript Ordained - Level 18
"To: [____]"
"Travel to where the Prescripts Originate; Meet with the present Weaver"
Eliminate
When you or an ally within 40 feet of you reduces a creature to 0 hit points, you regain a number of hit points equal to the damage dealt by the attack that reduced the creature to 0 hit points.
