Monk
Base Class: Monk

🌑 Lore / Description

Monks of the Way of the Eclipse Soul learn to balance two opposing forces within their ki: the brilliance of inner sunlight and the quiet chill of ghostlight. Through intense discipline, they learn to shift between radiant and spectral manifestations, becoming warriors who walk between life and death, light and shadow. Their ki forms an eclipse — a union of opposites — allowing them to strike with sun‑fire or slip through the world like a wandering spirit.

🌘 Level 3 — Eclipse Attunement

Your ki manifests in two distinct stances: Solar Stance and Spectral Stance. You may enter either stance as a bonus action, and the stance lasts for 1 minute. Entering a stance ends any stance you were previously in.

Solar Stance

While in Solar Stance:

  • Your unarmed strikes deal radiant damage instead of bludgeoning.

  • You gain the ability to make Radiant Bolts, ranged spell‑attack‑like ki blasts:

    • As an action, you make a ranged ki attack with a 30‑foot range.

    • On a hit, the bolt deals radiant damage equal to your Martial Arts die.

  • You shed dim light in a 10‑foot radius.

Spectral Stance

While in Spectral Stance:

  • Your unarmed strikes deal necrotic damage instead of bludgeoning.

  • You gain Ethereal Slip:

    • As a bonus action, you may spend 1 ki to become partially ethereal until the end of your turn.

    • While ethereal, you may move through creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain.

    • If you end your turn inside an object, you are shunted to the nearest open space and take 1d10 force damage.

🌗 Level 6 — Eclipse Techniques

Your mastery of eclipse ki grants you two techniques, each tied to one of your stances.

Radiant Flare (Solar Stance)

When you hit a creature with a Radiant Bolt or an unarmed strike, you may spend 1 ki to unleash a burst of solar energy. The target must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or take 1d8 radiant damage and be dazzled until the start of your next turn. A dazzled creature sheds dim light and has disadvantage on the next attack roll it makes.

Ghoststep Bind (Spectral Stance)

When you hit a creature with an unarmed strike, you may spend 1 ki to bind its spirit with ghostlight. The target must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or be hindered by spectral chains, reducing its speed by 10 feet and preventing it from taking the Dash action until the end of your next turn.

🌒 Level 11 — Eclipse Beam

You unleash a line of eclipse energy combining radiant and necrotic ki.

As an action, you may spend 3 ki to fire a 60‑foot line of eclipse energy 5 feet wide. Creatures in the line must make a Dexterity saving throw, taking 4d8 radiant + 4d8 necrotic damage on a failed save, or half as much on a success.

The beam leaves a faint afterimage of light and shadow that fades instantly.

🌕 Level 17 — Total Eclipse

You can briefly maintain both stances at once, becoming a being of blended radiance and ghostlight.

As a bonus action, you may spend 4 ki to enter Total Eclipse for 1 minute. While in Total Eclipse:

  • Your unarmed strikes deal radiant + necrotic damage.

  • You gain resistance to radiant and necrotic damage.

  • When you hit a creature with radiant damage, you may teleport up to 10 feet to an unoccupied space you can see.

  • When you hit a creature with necrotic damage, you may force it to make a Wisdom saving throw or become frightened of you until the end of your next turn.

  • You may use Radiant Bolts even while under the effects of Ethereal Slip.

Once you use Total Eclipse, you cannot use it again until you finish a long rest unless you spend 6 ki to use it again.
