Base Class: Artificer
Waysmiths are ingenious Artificers who have mastered the manipulation of space, creating magical passages between locations that would otherwise remain separated. Through an intricate combination of arcane engineering, enchanted instruments, and spatial mathematics, they construct temporary doorways that allow creatures to traverse great distances in a single step.
Where others seek to discover hidden paths or master teleportation, Waysmiths instead create new routes, transforming the battlefield and overcoming seemingly impassable obstacles. To a Waysmith, distance is merely another problem waiting to be solved through invention.

Level 3: Portalcasting
You have developed the means to create temporary doorways between two points in space.
At 3rd level, as a Bonus Action, you create two linked magical portals in unoccupied, flat spaces you can see. One portal must appear within 30 feet of you, and the other must appear within 30 feet of the first. Each portal is a vertical doorway measuring 5 feet wide and 10 feet tall.
- When you create the portals, you designate a number of willing creatures equal to 1 plus your Intelligence modifier (minimum of one creature). You can include yourself.
- A designated creature can enter either portal and emerge from the other, spending 5 feet of movement to do so. Travel through the portals is bidirectional, but a creature can use them only once on each of its turns.
- The portals remain stationary for 1 minute or until you dismiss them (no action required). Only designated creatures can travel through them. Attacks, spells, and other effects cannot pass through the portals unless another Waysmith feature states otherwise.
Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a Long Rest, unless you expend an Artificer spell slot to regain one use (no action required). You can have only one pair of portals active at a time.
Level 5: Waypunting
You have learned to create momentary distortions in space, allowing you to strike enemies with unexpected force.
At 5th level, once on each of your turns, when you deal damage to a creature with a weapon attack or an Artificer spell, you can deal an extra 1d8 Force damage to that creature.
If the creature is Large or smaller, it must succeed on a Strength saving throw against your Artificer spell save DC or be moved up to 5 feet horizontally to an unoccupied space you can see.
Level 9: Arcane Conduit
You have learned to channel your magic through the portals you create, allowing you to cast spells from unexpected locations.
At 9th level, while you are within 5 feet of one of your portals, you can cast an Artificer spell through it, causing the spell to originate from the other portal.
When casting a spell in this way, you can see from the exit portal for the purpose of choosing targets, and you determine the spell's range and cover from that portal rather than from your location.
The spell must have a casting time of an Action or Bonus Action and a range other than Self.
Level 15: Return to Sender
You have mastered the creation of instantaneous portals, allowing you to redirect incoming attacks towards their origin.
At 15th level, when a creature you can see hits you or another creature within 30 feet of you with an attack roll, you can take a Reaction to create two momentary portals that intercept and redirect the attack.
- The triggering attack misses its original target. You can then make a ranged spell attack against the attacker using your Artificer spell attack modifier. On a hit, the attacker takes damage equal to the damage the triggering attack would have dealt on a normal hit, retaining its original damage types. The redirected attack causes no additional effects.
- You can use this feature once without expending a spell slot, and you regain that use when you finish a Long Rest. You can also expend an Artificer spell slot of level 3 or higher to use this feature again.
