Sorcerer
Base Class: Sorcerer

An event bringing you to the brink of death has fused your soul with ethereal magic that you can bend to your will.

On Death's Door

Your spirit is as loosely connected to you as it is to death.

When you drop to 0 HP, you manifest yourself as a ghost at the same spot as your fallen body in the ethereal plane. As a ghost, you are invisible on the material plane and can't interact with the world around you. You can, however, see normally into the ethereal plane, up to 60 feet in the material plane and you gain darkvision up to 60 feet. You still need to make death saving throws in this form. When you die, your spirit fades away completely.

While you are in this form, you can try to interact with the world as a ghost. If you want to interact with an object (throw a glass off the table, pick up a weapon, hit somebody), you must make a Charisma check against a DC. If you succeed, you can interact with the chosen object. For every object you are holding at the start of a turn, you must make a separate Charisma check at the start of the turn. The DC is 19 at level 1 and becomes 16 at level 6, 11 at level 11 and 6 at level 18.

Something In Between

Starting from level 1, you count as an undead beside your normal race.

Disembodiment

You are able to leave your body at will. As an bonus action, you can manifest yourself in ghost form on the ethereal plane as you would with On Death's Door, but at will. While you are disembodied, your body is unconscious. As ghost you are invisible for everyone on the material plane, can see normally into the ethereal plane, up to 60 feet into the material plane with 60 feet darkvision and you can only interact with the world against a DC. To re-enter your corporeal body you have to touch it once as an action, after which you enter your body instantly.

Possession

You are able to possess somebody else's body. While you are under the effects of Ethereal Walker, you can try to possess somebody else's body as an action. The other person has to make a charisma saving throw against your spell save DC. If he fails his saving throw, you enter the person's body and can control it freely. The other person's mind lies dormant, but it can repeat the saving throw every hour. When your body dies, your ghost gives the body back and fades.

Ethereal Walker

Your powers as an Ethereal Walker increase.

  • You can bring your physical body with you when doing Disembodiment.
  • When you use Possession, you can choose to extinguish the other person's mind, effectively killing them, while you remain inside the body. To do so, you have to possess them for 24 hours.
  • You gain resistance against slashing, piercing or bludgeoning damage from nonmagical weapons.
  • When your body dies while you are possessing some, you can remain inside the host's body. When you are ejected, you die. If you succeed in killing the host's mind, you can live on inside the host's body as if it was your own.
  • You gain darkvision up to 60 feet and you can see into the ethereal plane up to 60 feet.
  • You can freely interact with the physical world as a ghost.
