Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

The Oath of Protection sets a paladin on a long and and hard path, one that requires the holy warrior avoid relying purely on violence. Paladins who devote themselves to this oath believe that all persons should be redeemed and that the path of benevolence and justice is one that anyone can walk. These paladins rely on the power of their words to coerce foes into submission, and rely on brute force only when they themselves are set upon.

While protectors are idealists, they are no jesters. Protectors know that undead, demons, devils, and other supernatural threats can be inherently evil. Against such foes, paladins who swear this oath bring the full wrath of their weapons and spells to bear. Yet the protectors still pray that, one day, even creatures of wickedness will invite their own redemption.

TENETS OF PROTECTION

The tenets of the Oath of Protection hold a paladin to a high standard of peace and justice.

Peace. Violence is a weapon of last resort. Persuasion and critical thinking are the paths to long-lasting peace.

Innocence. All people begin life in an innocent state, and it is their environment or the influence of dark forces that drives them to evil. By setting the proper example, and working to heal the wounds of a deeply flawed world, you can set anyone on a righteous path.

Strength. The innocent and weak cannot always stand up for themselves. A protector must be able to weather all strikes and blows and yet stand strong for those who do not have the power to do it themselves.

Wisdom. There will be times when to protect can also mean to destroy . In order to be safe haven, a sanctuary to those who seek it, you must be prepared to impose judgement and wrath to those who seek to destroy it.

Channel Divinity

When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options.

Peaceful Words: You can use your Channel Divinity to radiate empathy, empowering your words and thoughts. As a bonus action, you grant yourself advantage on all Charisma checks for next 10 minutes.

Stalwart Protectorate: You can use your Channel Divinity to bolster you and your allies. As an action, choose up to 3 creatures within 30 feet of you. For the next minute these creatures have additional AC equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of 1)

Aura of the Protector

Starting at 7th level, your compassion and empathy emits constantly from you, providing safety for those near you. While you are conscious, a friendly creature that ends its turn within 10 feet of you regains hitpoints equal to your Charisma modifier, provided they have less than half of their HP remaining.

Additionally, you slowly heal yourself when not in combat. You regain 1 hit point every 10 minutes.

At 18th level, the range of this aura increases to 30 feet.

Holy Blockade

Starting at 15th level, you learn to absolve others from damage. As a reaction, when a creature takes damage from any source, you can reduce it by half. You can use this feature a number of times equal to 1 + your Charisma modifier. When you finish a long rest, you regain all expended uses.

Protector of the Realm

At 20th level, you focus the warmth of your soul to be shared with those in need. As an action, you magically become a manifestation of strength and protection, gaining the following benefits for 1 minute:

  • You and friendly creatures within 30 feet of you have resistance to bludgeoning, piercing and slashing damage.
  • When a creature harms you or others protected by this feature, the creature takes 20 radiant damage.
  • You emit bright light in a 60 feet sphere, and an additional 60 feet of dim light.
