Rogue
Base Class: Rogue

Some people steal money, others steal items, some steal respect, some steal lives - but you? You steal stories.

You serve an institute of learning, marked by the mysterious and bizarre. Some serve this place, gathering and recovering artifacts of incredible and horrible power. Instead of magical artifacts, however, you gather and archive accounts of the supernatural, the incredible, and the terrifying. And this knowledge? It grants you power.

Insight on Record

You may spend the period of a short or long rest looking over records of situations similar to what you are about to face. Choose one specified kind of creature (i.e, Horned Devils, not Fiends). You gain advantage on attacks against these creatures.

You make increase the number of creatures you can study to 2 at 9th level, 3 at 13th level, and 4 at 17th level.

Tell Me A Story

You can compel a creature to recall a story about an impactful supernatural event it has experienced. Your target must be a creature that you can see, and that can see and understand you. The creature must make a wisdom saving throw against a DC of 8 + Intelligence Modifier + Proficiency Bonus, or be forced to recount the tale. The creature shares everything it considers relevant to the story, During this time, the creature can take no actions. This effect ends when the story has been finished, or the creature is attacked.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier per short rest.

Knowledge is Power

When you compel a creature to tell you a story, choose one of the following options:

  • Roll 2d8+Int, regain that number of hit points
  • End one disease or condition on yourself as per the spell Lesser restoration. The condition can be blinded, deafened, paralyzed, or poisoned.
  • Gain one skill proficiency of your choice. This proficiency lasts until you next compel a creature.

Additionally, your compelling no longer requires your target to understand you; any creature with an intelligence greater than 1 can be compelled, and you understand that creature telepathically.

You Are The Archive

You gain proficiency in all Intelligence-based skills.

Once per long rest, you can focus and gain insight beyond mortal knowledge. Ask the DM one question about something that has happened in the past, is currently happening, or is in the process of being planned or beginning to occur. The DM responds truthfully.
