Base Class: Monk
Monks of the Way of the Gentle Fist are ultimate masters of unarmed combat. They learn to manipulate and focus Ki on certain parts of the body and expelling it, allowing for accurate strikes, creating fields of Ki and sending out blasts of compressed Ki.
Ki Manipulation
Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you can manipulate your ki into different parts of your body gaining the following techniques:
Byakugan
Ki manipulation allows you to focus your ki into your eyes, turning both iris and pupil a shade of light purple and causing the veins surrounding your eyes to bulge. On your turn, you can use a Ki Point to activate the Byakugan as a Bonus Action.
While the Byakugan is activated, you gain the following benefits:
- You gain a 360º diameter field of vision, that can peer through solid objects when focused on, in a 10ft radius around you. The ability is blocked by 2 feet of stone, 2 inches of common metal, a thin sheet of lead, or 6 feet of wood or dirt. (The radius increases as you level, 30 ft at lvl 10, 60 ft at lvl 17)
- You are able to see the flow of Ki which runs through all creatures. This allows you to see a creatures Ki pathways. These pathways have many Ki points that can be struck using the gentle fist.
- You can discern invisible creatures within the range of your Byakugan
- When you reach lvl 17, you can spend a Ki point to to partially expand the range of your Byakugan up to 5 miles, for 1 minute. Beyond the current range of your Byakugan, and up to 5 miles, you are only capable of seeing the Ki flowing through creatures. This allows you to see the general shape and size of a creature and how far away they are. You are unable to discern any specifics. (For example; If it is male or female, elf or human, skin colour, etc...)
- When the ability ends the strain from focusing Ki into your eyes causes you to become blinded until the end of your next turn.
Any space outside of the field appears as Darkness lighting and imposes disadvantage on perception checks using vision and attack rolls to hit anything outside the field. You are not considered blind but it is very difficult to see. (Darkvision can't see through this darkness and light of any kind can't illuminate it for you.)
Gentle Fist
Ki manipulation allows you to focus Ki onto your fingertips. You precisely strike an opponent's Ki points causing internal damage. On your turn, you can use Ki Points up to your Wisdom Score Modifier to activate the Gentle Fist as a Bonus Action.
While Gentle Fist is active, you gain the following benefits:
- When the ability is activated, the number of Ki Points used is added to the damage of each unarmed strike.
- The precision needed to utilize this technique requires the use of Dexterity for attack and damage rolls.
- The Byakugan needs to be activated to properly use this technique, if the Gentle Fist is used without the Byakugan, you have disadvantage on the attacks.
- Targeted Paralyze: There are specific parts of the body that can be temporarily rendered disfunctional. This ability is activated when you score a critical hit, or hit a single target 3 times in one turn. There are 6 locations that cause different effects when targeted:
- Body: −2 penalty to AC and Dexterity saving throws, and it can't use reactions. On its turn, it can use either an action or a bonus action, not both. Regardless of the creature's abilities or magic items, it can't make more than one melee or ranged attack during its turn.
- - Head: Blinded
- 1 Arm: That arm becomes unable to function, causing them to drop whatever they are holding. 2 Arms: The target cannot attack using their arms, or perform the somatic component of spells. Disadvantage on str saving throws/fail checks, involving arms (Disadvantage for grapple/shove) -
- Legs: Move speed halved. 2 Legs: Movement becomes 0, target falls prone, dis on dex saves, fail checks involving legs(Dis for grapple/shove)
- A creature affected by 3 targetted paralyzes at the same time becomes completely paralyzed until the end of your next turn.
You can activate both Ki Manipulation techniques during the same Bonus Action.
You can use a bonus action to end Ki Manipulation.
Ki Manipulation lasts for 1 minute. It ends early if you are knocked unconscious. Before Ki Manipulation ends, you can extend it for 1 minute by spending 1 Ki point.
Eight Trigrams Vacuum Palm
At 6th level, You have mastered the ability to expel ki from your body using it to create blasts of compressed Ki that allows you to push your opponent away from you. When you make an unarmed attack while the Gentle Fist is active you can spend 1 ki point to fire a compressed blast of ki at your target. On a hit the target takes damage equal to your martial arts die and applies the effects of the Gentle Fist. That creature must make a Strength saving throw. On a failed save, you push the creature up to 10 feet away from you and knock it prone. On a successful save the creature is neither pushed nor knocked prone.
Eight Trigrams: Palm Rotation
Beginning at 11th level, you can combine the expelling of Ki from your body with high speed rotation to create a field of protection. As a reaction, and until the start of your next turn, you can spend 2 Ki points to spin at a very high speed while releasing Ki energy from your body. You form a 5ft radius sphere of Ki energy which shields you from incoming projectiles, both non-magical and magical. The space is considered difficult terrain. Melee attacks within the sphere have disadvantage. A creature, whose size is large or smaller, who enters the radius for the first time, or starts their turn within the radius must make a strength saving throw taking 1d6 force damage per Ki point spent and getting pushed 1d6 x 5ft directly away from you.
You can spend extra Ki points to expand the radius by 5ft per Ki point up to 30ft. This also makes the force of the Ki stronger increasing the push by 1d6 x 5 per Ki point. The size of a creature capable of being pushed increases to Huge at 15ft, and Gargantuan at 30ft.
For every extra Ki point spent, you can safely fit 1 creature of equal or smaller size than you. At 15ft radius, one of the creatures can be Large, and at 30ft radius, you can have 2 large or 1 Huge creature.
8 Trigrams 64 Palms Technique
At 17th level, you learn the 8 Trigrams 64 Palms Technique.
As an action, you can spend a Ki point to activate the technique, creating a glowing circle in the form of a Trigram. The radius of the Trigram is how many feet of movement you have remaining, (ex. If you have 30ft of movement, the radius is 30 ft, if you move 10 ft and have 20 ft remaining, the radius is 20ft.) You cannot activate this technique if you do not have any movement left.
You become aware of all creatures within the Trigram. Choose a target within range and instantly appear next to them, as long as you remain within the Trigram. Make one Unarmed srike attack roll against the target, dealing 2d6 damage instead of your martial arts die, as you deliver 2 swift strikes to vital Ki points instantly causing a Targeted Paralyze of your choice.
You can spend 1 additional Ki point per each set of strikes in this order:
- 1 Ki point: Make another attack roll to deal another 2 strikes for an additional 2d6 damage.
- 2 Ki points: Make another attack roll to deal another 4 strikes for an additional 3d6 damage.
- 3 Ki points: Make another attack roll to deal another 8 strikes for an additional 4d6 damage.
- 4 Ki points: Make another attack roll to deal another 16 strikes for an additional 5d6 damage.
- 5 Ki points: Make another attack roll to deal another 32 strikes for an additional 6d6 damage, for a total of 64 strikes, completing the 8 Trigrams 64 Palms Technique.
If the technique is completed and all 6 attacks are successful, the target's Ki points have been completely blocked causing the target to become instantly paralyzed for 1 minute, if one or more attacks miss, then the target must make a constitution saving throw or be paralyzed for a number of turns equal to the number of successful attacks.
If the enemy you have targeted is reduced to 0 HP, you can freely move to another target if they are within the Trigram. You can continue to do this as long as the current target has 0 HP and you have more strikes with the 64 palms technique.
You can use this ability up to a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier per Long Rest.
