Rogue
Base Class: Rogue

Many-Masked rogues are worshipers, after a fashion, of a god of balance, performance, or trickery.  Their relationship with the divine is more remote and transactional compared with clerics and paladins.  Nonetheless, their god bestows upon them exceptional flexibility.  Donning magical masks, they can imitate the abilities of many other classes, making them especially adept at infiltration.

Archetype Masks

When you select this archetype at 3rd level, you gain access to four magical masks that each correspond to a certain archetype: the Mask of the Arcane, the Mask of Combat, the Mask of the Divine, and the Mask of the Wild.  They work only for you and other Many-Masked rogues.

When you finish a long rest, you can place one mask on your face.  If you do so, it melds into your body.  Until you finish a long rest, you gain certain powers depending on the mask you wear.

Mask of the Arcane.  Wearing the Mask of the Arcane allows you to imitate a bard, sorcerer, warlock, or wizard.  You gain the following benefits while wearing it.

  • Each time you don the mask, you gain proficiency in either Arcana or Performance and one musical instrument of your choice.
  • You can cast spells as described in the Many-Masked spellcasting table.

Mask of Combat.  Wearing the Mask of Combat allows you to imitate a barbarian, fighter, or monk.  You gain the following benefits while wearing it.

  • You can swap your Strength and Dexterity ability scores.
  • You gain proficiency in Athletics.
  • Each time you don the mask, you either gain proficiency in martial weapons, all armor, and shields or gain the monk's Martial Arts and Unarmored Defense features.  If you choose the second option, you treat your rogue level as your effective monk level for the purposes of determining your damage with unarmed strikes, and you can add your Intelligence modifier instead of your Wisdom modifier for Unarmored Defense.
  • Each time you don the mask, you either choose one Fighting Style available to a fighter, gain the ability to enter a Lesser Rage, which acts as the barbarian's Rage feature but does not grant resistance to damage, or increase your speed by 10 feet while not wearing armor or wielding a shield.

Mask of the Divine.  Wearing the Mask of the Divine allows you to imitate a cleric or paladin.  You gain the following benefits while wearing it.

  • You can swap your Strength and Dexterity ability scores.
  • You gain proficiency in Religion.
  • You gain proficiency in martial weapons, all armor, and shields.
  • You can cast spells as described in the Many-Masked spellcasting table.

Mask of the Wild.  Wearing the Mask of the Wild allows you to imitate either a druid or ranger.  You gain the following benefits while wearing it.

  • You can swap your Strength and Dexterity ability scores.
  • Each time you don the mask, you gain proficiency in either Animal Handling, Nature, or Survival.
  • You gain proficiency in martial weapons, medium armor, and shields.
  • You can cast spells as described in the Many-Masked spellcasting table.

Spellcasting

When you wear either the Mask of the Arcane, Mask of the Divine, or Mask of the Wild, you augment your roguish prowess with the ability to cast spells.  You have three different spell lists, one for each mask.

Cantrips

Mask of the Arcane. You learn any two cantrips of your choice from any combination of the bard spell list, sorcerer spell list, warlock spell list, and wizard spell list. You learn an additional cantrip of your choice at 10th level.

Mask of the Divine.  You learn any two cantrips of your choice from the cleric spell list.  You learn an additional cleric cantrip of your choice at 10th level.

Mask of the Wild.  You learn any two cantrips of your choice from the druid spell list.  You learn an additional druid cantrip of your choice at 10th level.

Spell Slots

The Many-Masked Spellcasting table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your spells of 1st level and higher.  To cast one of these spells, you must expend a slot of the spell's level or higher.  You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a long rest.

For example, if you know the 1st-level spell Shield and have a 1st-level and a 2nd-level spell slot available, you can cast Shield using either slot.

Spells Known of 1st Level and Higher

Mask of the Arcane. You know any three spells of your choice from any combination of the bard spell list, sorcerer spell list, warlock spell list, and wizard spell list.  However, if you learn the Find Familiar spell, you lose access to your familiar when not wearing this Mask.

Mask of the Divine.  You know any three spells of your choice from any combination of the cleric spell list and paladin spell list.

Mask of the Wild.  You know any three spells of your choice from any combination of the druid spell list and ranger spell list.

The Spells Known column of the Many-Masked Spellcasting table shows when you learn more spells of 1st level or higher. Each of these spells must be of a level for which you have spell slots. For instance, when you reach 7th level in this class, you can learn one new spell of 1st or 2nd level.

Whenever you gain a level in this class, you can replace one of the spells you know with another spell of your choice from the same spell lists available for that mask. The new spell must be of a level for which you have spell slots.

Spellcasting Ability

Intelligence is your spellcasting ability for all your spells from this archetype, since you learn your spells through a combination of study, memorization, and negotiation with your distant deity.  You use your Intelligence whenever a spell refers to your spellcasting ability.  In addition, you use your Intelligence modifier when setting the saving throw DC for a spell you cast and when making an attack roll with one.

Spell save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier

Spell attack modifier = your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier

Bonus Proficiency

At 3rd level, you are highly skilled at concealing your true face.  You gain proficiency in the disguise kit and add double your proficiency bonus to any checks made using that proficiency.

Greater Mask

At 9th level, you unlock deeper levels of power in your masks.  You gain the following benefits depending on what mask you are wearing.

Mask of the Arcane.  You gain one additional spell slot at the highest level spell you can cast, add double your proficiency bonus to any Intelligence (Arcana) checks, and can cast Detect Magic once between rests without expending a spell slot.

Mask of Combat.  You gain the Extra Attack feature.  If you choose the monk's Martial Arts feature, your unarmed strikes count as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage.

Mask of the Divine.  Each time you don this mask, you gain either the Extra Attack feature or the Channel Divinity and Destroy Undead features of a cleric.  If you choose the second option, you gain access to Channel Divinity: Destroy Undead, which you can use once between rests.  For the purposes of Destroy Undead, you treat your rogue level as your effective cleric level.

Mask of the Wild.  Each time you don this mask, you gain either the Extra Attack feature or the ability to Wild Shape as a druid once between rests, treating your rogue level as your effective druid level.

Swap Masks

At 13th level, you can switch your masks.  As an action, you can replace the mask you are currently wearing with another.  You immediately lose the benefits of the first mask and gain the benefits of the new one.  Any expended spell slots remain expended, although you may continue to concentrate on any spells from the first mask.

Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.

Mask Master

At 17th level, you fully master your masks.  You gain the following benefits depending on what mask you are wearing.

Mask of the Arcane.  Each time you don this mask, you choose to gain either 5 1d6 Bardic Inspiration dice, the 6th level or 10th level feature of any warlock archetype, the 6th level or 10th level feature of any wizard archetype, or 5 sorcery points and two Metamagic options available to sorcerers.  Treat your rogue level as your effective warlock or wizard class level for any warlock and wizard class features.  If any of these features require a saving throw, the DC is 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier.  For any warlock class features, you can use your Intelligence modifier instead of your Charisma modifier.

Mask of Combat.  Each time you don this mask, you choose to gain either once use of Action Surge between rests and one use of Indomitable, receive 1/4 less bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage while in a Lesser Rage, or gain 5 ki points and the Flurry of Blows, Patient Defense, Step of the Wind, and Deflect Missiles features, treating your rogue level as your effective monk level.

Mask of the Divine.  Each time you don this mask, you choose to gain either the 1st-4th level domain spells and 1st level feature(s) of any cleric domain or the paladin's Divine Sense and Lay on Hands or Divine Smite features.  If you choose Lay on Hands, you have a pool of 40 hit points.  If you choose Divine Smite, you deal d4s instead of d8s of radiant damage.  For any domain feature and Divine Sense, you can use your Intelligence modifier instead of your Wisdom or Charisma modifier.

Mask of the Wild.  Each time you don this mask, you choose to gain either the ranger's Natural Explorer feature or the 6th level or 10th level feature of any druid archetype.  For any druid class features, you can use your Intelligence modifier instead of your Wisdom modifier.
