Fighter
Base Class: Fighter

Fencing is an art with access to the lost Stances, which can be assumed to augment attacking or defensive prowess. A fencer is skilled in disarming an opponent and deflecting attacks, similar to a Monk, though they typically use finesse weapons such as rapiers.

Fencing Prowess (Level 3)

In addition to the lost art of combat stances, fencers have proficiency in finesse weapons such as rapiers, and in dexterity saving throws.

Combat Stances (Level 3)

Assume one of three special fighting stances lost to all fighters except for fencers.

Wolf Stance: Bare your teeth and your blade when assuming this offensive stance which sacrifices defense for attacking prowess. Gain advantage on any and all strength rolls, but suffer disadvantage on rolls which invoke constitution.

Auroch Stance: Brace yourself against attacks by planting your feet against the ground and shifting your center of gravity. Gain advantage on constitution rolls when being attacked, but suffer disadvantage on dexterity rolls.

Hawk Stance: Feel the wind across your face as you dodge and weave between attacks, favoring fluidity above offense. Gain advantage on dexterity rolls to avoid attacks, but suffer disadvantage on strength rolls.

Enhanced Stances (Level 7)

Combat experience in the use of fencing arts has enhanced the benefits that come from assuming them.

Wolf Stance: Battle scars hum with the memory of combat, and practiced movements become natural instinct. Gain an additional hit die when making an attack.

Auroch Stance: Countless attacks have bounced off of your immovable hide, leaving vulnerabilities. Gain a +2 bonus to AC.

Hawk Stance: The speed required to dart between clashing blades and flying arrows has melted into your natural movements. Gain an additional ten feet of movement speed.

Seamless Stances (Level 10)

Use of your multiple fencing stances has ingrained them in your mind as second nature. You may now switch between stances as a bonus action.

Disarm (Level 10)

You can channel the raw grace and energy of your blade into a motion that disarms foes. Use a finesse weapon to deftly disarm a target who is not wielding a Heavy weapon.

Advanced Technique (Level 15)

You have unlocked the true potential of the stance, and forgotten abilities have become available to you. Gain the ability to harness the full power of a stance to perform an advanced attack that leaves the user in a neutral stance.

Fencing Master (Level 18)

Extensive combat training and practice has honed your fencing skill to the highest level. You can now disarm any weapon, heavy or not, and can perform the Disarm action with any weapon, even an improvised weapon. Additionally, you can perform Advanced Techniques (Wolf Fang, Auroch Slam, Hawk Talon) from any stance, afterwards assuming the stance of the technique used.
