Barbarian
Base Class: Barbarian

You fight in the name of Raziel, the Crusader.  Raziel rules Mertion, the fifth layer of Celestia, known as the Platinum Heaven.  Among his celestial peers, he is called the Firestar for his judicious wrath.  Raziel offers guidance to paladins and devotes his energy to protecting the defenseless.  Raziel opposes tyranny and oppression with a ferocity that is both startling and inspiring.

When legendary paladins seek the wisdom of the Firestar, they come to Empyrea, the City of Tempered Souls.  Raziel doesn’t maintain a stronghold but can be found in any one of the city’s great hospitals and infirmaries, providing spiritual guidance and protection to the clerics and patients.

Burning Spirit

Starting at 3rd level, when you enter a rage, your head erupts into flames.  While raging, you have resistance to fire damage and the first creature you hit on each of your turns with a weapon attack takes extra damage equal to 1d4 + half your barbarian level. The extra damage is fire damage, but due to its heavenly nature, it ignores fire resistance and deals damage to creatures immune to fire as if they instead had resistance.

Heaven's Heart

Beginning at 6th level, you can't be charmed or frightened while raging.  If you are charmed or frightened when you enter your rage, the effect is suspended for the duration of the rage.

Sword and Board Master

Beginning at 10th level, you have become masterful with using a longsword in one hand and a shield in the other in the manner of your patron.  When you are wielding a longsword in one hand and no other weapons, you gain a +2 bonus to damage rolls with that longsword.  When a creature you can see attacks a target other than you that is within 5 feet of you, you can use your reaction to impose disadvantage on the attack roll.  You must be wielding a shield to use this feature.

Devastating Charge

By 14th level, your charge attacks have become especially powerful.  If you move at least 20 feet straight toward a target and then attack it with a melee weapon on the same turn, the first attack is made with advantage, and if it hits, the target takes additional damage equal to your Barbarian level.

You are encouraged to replace the 20th level feature Primal Champion with the following ability:

Summon Temperion

At 20th level, you are such a devoted servant of Raziel that he is willing to lend you his own steed.  You can spend an action to summon Temperion for 1 minute.  Temperion is a celestial charger, a unicorn of great strength, with maximum hit points (220).  The statistics of celestial chargers can be found on DnDBeyond.

While you are mounted on Temperion and not incapacitated, you gain the following benefits:

  • You have advantage on melee attack rolls against unmounted creatures that are smaller than Temperion.
  • You can force an attack targeted at Temperion to target you instead.
  • If your Temperion is subjected to an effect that allows him to make a Dexterity save to take only half damage, he takes no damage if it succeeds and half damage if he fails.

If Temperion would drop to 0 hit points as a result of taking damage, he instead drops to 1 hit point and instantly teleports back to Raziel’s side, even if he has already used his reaction. If Temperion is subjected to an effect that would kill him instantaneously without dealing damage, that effect is instead negated and he similarly returns to Raziel.  If you are riding Temperion when he leaves, you are safely deposited on the ground.
