Base Class: Monk
Monks of the Way of the Mirrored Path attune their ki to the transitive powers of the Border Ethereal - the shores of the Ethereal Plane that overlap with the Material and Inner Planes - to deflect attacks, bolster their defences and deliver calculated reprisal to those that deal them harm.
As such, the Path of Mirrors is concerned with manipulating the opponent’s force against themselves, rather than confronting it with one’s own force. One might consider the practices of this Way to be relatively passive - however, this could not be farther from the truth. While their training bears emphasis on quiet self-reflection, impartiality and objective observance of the “outside” world, monks of the Way of the Mirrored Path are emboldened to seek out evil and corruption and stand before it as a vigilant barrier with exceptional portent.
Through the Looking Glass
Upon taking this monastic tradition at level 3, you develop resistance to Force and Psychic damage
You also gain proficiency in the Insight or Perception skill.
Insight
You gain proficiency in the Insight skill.
Perception
You gain proficiency in the Perception skill.
Cold Composure
Your training affords you advantage on saves against being charmed or frightened.
Twisting Momentum
Upon undertaking this tradition at level 3, you begin to train your ki to manipulate the momentum of your enemy and turn it against them. If a creature misses you with a melee attack, you can use your reaction to make a melee attack against that creature. On a hit, you may choose to spend 1 ki point to force the target to make a wisdom saving throw. On a failure, you can impose one of the following effects on that target:
- It must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or be knocked prone.
- It must make a Strength saving throw. If it fails, you can push it up to half its movement speed away from you.
- It can’t take reactions until the end of your next turn.
Ethereal Block
Starting at 6th level, as a reaction you may spend 2 ki point to exude an ethereal barrier to deflect oncoming attacks. Until the start of your next turn, you have a +5 bonus to AC, including against the triggering attack, and you take no damage from magic missile, thereby affording you the benefits of the Shield.
Ethereal Bounce
Beginning at 6th level, your attunement to the Ethereal Plane begins to manifest through your physical being. As an action, you may spend 2 ki points to cast the Blink spell.
Mental Block
At level 11, you gain immunity to psychic damage and to any effect that would sense your emotions or read your thoughts.
Dance through Mirrors
Your familiarity with the Ethereal Plane allows you to spend 3 ki points to grant you the benefits of the Far Step spell to traverse through the Ethereal Plane and reappear on your current plane. This feature requires that you make a Constitution saving throw should you take damage to maintain the effects of this feature - similar to maintaining concentration for a spell.
Mirrored Heart
At level 17, your connection to the Ethereal Plane is incomparable. You can spend 8 ki points to cast the Etherealness spell to transport up to six willing creatures (including yourself) to the Ethereal Plane.
Shattering Retribution
Starting at your 17th level, you can reflect devastating damage against those who dealt you harm. When hit by an attack or spell that deals you damage, as a reaction you may spend 4 ki points to force the target to make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failure, the target takes force damage equal to the amount of damage intended for you. On a success, both you and the target take half damage from the original attack.
